    Receiving we cannot sign you into your account error

    Hi Daniel,



    Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.



    I understand that you received after an HP update, you received a message, ‘we cannot sign you into your account’. I’ll certainly assist you with this.



    However, please let us know:



    • May I know the HP update that was installed?
    • Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? To check type:
      winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit
      Enter.


    Based on the information provided by you, it could be possible that the computer might be booting to a Temporary profile that is the reason the files are missing after reboot.



    I would suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the article
    on Windows 10 error message: "We can't sign in to your account".



    Let us know how it goes.

    We'd like to gather more information for us to assists you better with this concern. Kindly answer the following questions:

    • Do you mean the issue started after you've updated your Windows 10 computer?
    • Do you get this error message whenever you're trying to sign-in?
    • Have you also considered checking the suggestions posted by KomouPoji in this
      thread? Quite a few people found the suggestions helpful.

    Hello -

    To answer your questions:

    • Were there any significant changes made on your device prior to this occurring?
      • I realized yesterday afternoon that there was a failed attempt to install an update a couple weeks ago. I am not 100% positive, but I think the last time I successfully logged in to my account there were updates that needed to install before I shut
        down. However, I was able to install that update on my device yesterday and I was still unable to log in to my account.
    • Have you tried to replicate the issue by logging in to another Microsoft account?
      • I created a new Microsoft account and a new user account for my device using that new Microsoft account. I was able to log in using that account without any error messages or issues.
    • Do you remember turning on the two-step verification feature? If yes, disable or turn it off and check if you will encounter the same error.
      • I've never turned on two-step verification. I went to the link you provided to see how to check and make sure and I verified that two-step verification is not enabled.
