Windows 10: Wrong Location In MS EDGE and Windows Map App

MS Edge opening Google Maps has the PC location off by 17 miles. Windows 10 Map App has same incorrect location. I have done the location set/reset. set the default location to the PC's location, cleared location history, stopped syncing, run SFC /SCANNOW, chkdsk, etc. to no avail, i.e. PC location is incorrect. I also cleared browser cookies, history, and cached data. Still the PC location is incorrect. The problem has to be with Windows 10 or MS EDGE because using Google Chrome browser on the PC shows the correct location. Not sure the exact start date of the issue., probably within the last week to two weeks. MS EDGE Version 86.0.622.58 Official build 64-bit. Windows 10 version 1903, last update 11/1/2020 .Net Framework update KB4580980.

Is the location an issue with just my PC configuration? Is the location inaccuracy a known Windows bug?


I did notice that SVCHOST5012,R,98 SRUJet encounters a permission error every 10 seconds. The error: "An attempt to create the file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\SRU\SRUtmp.log" failed " due to a permission error.

Does the svchost error have something to do with the location issue?

my location on maps app is wrong.

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Kindly follow the below steps and check if it helps.

• Type Location privacy settings in search bar
  and click on Location privacy settings.
• Here you can enable/disable the Location.
• You may try to Enable/Disable the Maps app to use the
  location or not from the apps list.

here maps and google map in explorer 11 and edge showing wrong location yet firefox shows right location

I m using a HP Desktop and a HP laptop both on the same wifi both running windows 10 Po and activated

if I use the weather app and the map app on my desktop it shows wrong location when I use google maps in edge or explorer the same wrong location by around 10 miles

so I open Firefox use google maps and see there shows my right location within 80 meters so it has something to do with MS software as the wrong location is showing when it uses MS software .....That's the case on the Laptop

As for the Desktop no problems at all showing correct location within 50 meters but the desktop hasn't been moved in 2 years

where as the laptop always on the move

so took the laptop to work different location

and guess what same problem using the MS software

opened firefox and google maps and once again showed correct location within 80 meters

Please MS this is an Issue I have reported for months now find out how firefox browser plus google maps get it right but mircosoft edge, IE11,MAPS AND WEATHER APP CANT !!!!!!

 

Wrong location under Map App in Windows 10

a. Open Settings and type location
and select Clear Location History.

b. Clear the checkbox next to
History on this device to reset the location information.

c. Restart the PC and again open the Clear Location History
page.

d. Ensure to switch the toggle to 'on' for General Location and wait for the info to sync.



However, if the issue is related to the functionality of the Map App, I
suggest you to run the Apps troubleshooter
and check if it helps.
