Windows 10: Word could not create the work file. check the temp enviroment, issue

I have read countless posts on this subject all stating the same fixes but none worklike changing user shell folder cashe reg to ______________________________________________________________________________________%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files then adding this in advanced system properties / enviroment variables ______________________________________%userprofile%C:\Users\ your user name but still no change!!!! however I did find that if I open word documents with admin rights it works fine!Does this tell any one where the issue is co

Office 2013 Word: Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable

Whenever I try to open or preview a document, I get an error message that reads:

Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable

If I double-click the file it opens and it shows the error. Things I have tried:

1. Restarting
   
2. Removing Office 2013 using the MS removal tool, then reinstalling it
   
3. Making changes to the registry according to this SO solution.
   
4. Making changes to the registry according to this "TheWindowsClub" solution.
   

 

Every time I open Word 2016 I get the error Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable

Every time I open an existing document in Word 2016 on Windows 10 I get this error:

I can edit the document fine, and save it, but I have an error message popped up in the background and it makes an annoying ding every time I open a document.

If I open Word and create a new document I can save it fine, but the next time I open it, the error appears.

Articles found in searches often suggest to use L: regedit to check the Cache environment variable is correct - mine is %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache which according to these articles is correct).

I have also noticed that the location above is set to read-only in Windows, which doesn't seem right, but I don't know if this is normal or the cause of my problem.

Has anyone resolved this error recently?

 

These temp files will not delete

I suggest you to follow these methods below and check, if it works:

• Press Windows key + R key together, to open RUN command Window.
• Type "temp" in the RUN Command Window, to open temp folder and then delete the files and folders inside the temp folder.

If the issue persists, follow method 2.

Method 2:

• Press Windows key + R key together, to open RUN command Window.
• Type "%temp%" in the RUN Command Window, to open temp folder and then delete the files and folders inside the temp folder.
  

If the issue persists, follow method 3.

Method 3:

I suggest you to boot the computer to Safe Mode, then perform disk cleanup on Windows 10 and check, if it works.
