Windows 10: Wireless Xbox controller (driver error code 10)

I’m having trouble getting my Xbox controller to work, I don’t understand what went wrong because just a couple hours ago it was working fine. I will mention I had to delete the controller off my devices because I wanted to connect it to my Xbox one again and I’ve done this a few times (not sure if that’s what caused the problem) but now when I try to connect the controller I’m met with a driver error. When looking at xinput, which seems to be the source of the problem it states the error as a code 10. I’ve done some searching on the internet but none of the forums seem to help or properly address my situation.. any help is appreciated!

Wireless Xbox One controller requires PIN for Windows 10.

Hi,

You will be asked for a PIN when connecting your wireless Xbox One controller via Bluetooth on Windows 10 if your Bluetooth drivers are not updated. It is also possible that you have to reset the controller to remove the PIN. To resolve your concern, restart
your controller by following the steps below:

• Power off the controller by pressing and holding the Xbox button on the controller for 6 seconds.
• Press the Xbox button again to power it back on.
• Connect your Xbox Wireless Controller to your PC using a USB cable or the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

• Are you using an Xbox one controller?
  

If you are using an Xbox one controller, I suggest you to refer the steps in the article

How to connect an Xbox One Wireless Controller to a Windows PC and see if that helps in resolving the issue.



I would also suggest you to uninstall all the hidden devices under USB hive and check if you are able to connect the wireless adapter. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the hidden drivers:

1. Press and hold the Windows + X key on the keyboard.
   
2. Select Device manager.
   
3. Click View tab.
   
4. Select Show hidden devices.
   
5. Expand Universal Serial Bus and remove all the greyed out devices. To remove the greyed out devices, right click on the device and select
   uninstall.
   
6. Restart your computer.

Xbox wireless receiver (Code 10)

Hi,

This kind of situations is mostly related to the drivers that the device needs to function properly. As for the error code 10, you can use this

link as a reference for a possible resolution for the issue. You can also choose to manually install the drivers by following the steps below:

• Go to Device Manager and double click on the device. Go to the driver tab and click
  Update driver. Select "Browse my computer for driver software" then "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", scroll all the way to the bottom and select "Xbox 360 peripherals" then hit next. Hit next again and say yes to
  the prompt warning about the unverified device. That's it.
