Wireless mouse points but doesn't type

Just a shot.... mice and keyboards are generally plugged into USB2 ports, not USB3. That would include a dongle for a wireless mouse. I've seen reported issues with them in a USB3 port, they sometimes just do not play right. Just a guess, probably wrong. *Smile

  2. Hi

My wireless Microsoft mouse worked fine for two hours; since then the pointer works but I cannot type. I am now in the strange situation of having the old mouse reconnected as well which allows me to only type, and the new one which allows me to only use the pointer. Team mouse. I have tried reinstalling and updating the mouse driver, reestablishing the wireless connection and disabling the fast startup option but none of these methods work. I'd be grateful if anyone could help out.

    Thank you

    :)

usb wired and wireless mouse stopped working

Wireless 2.4G mouse was working. Recently had a MS update and then the wireless mouse stopped working. Tried using a wired USB mouse and it too doesn't work. Using Device Manager, I am able to Uninstall the Dell USB Mouse that is listed under Other Devices
which happens to be the wired mouse. Removing the USB connection and then plugging it back in, pops up a window Setting up Device followed by another pop up window indicated Device is Ready. However, the mouse still doesn't work.

Going back to the Device Manager, I can see the Device Status "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"

Fortunately I am on an Asus laptop and under Mice and other pointing device, the Asus Supported Device still works which is the touchpad.

Really would be helpful if the wired or wireless mouse worked. By the way, same behavior applies for the Wireless mouse.

  4. Wireless mouse points but doesn't type

Is there a way to turn off the phone's screen when using Continuum?

    This is a great idea.

    Case point:

    Configuration:

    Wireless Charging

    HDMI Wireless Casting

    Bluetooth Keyboard

    Bluetooth Mouse

I have no use for the display on the phone in this configuration. But wireless charging doesn't charge my phone fast enough to keep up with keeping the display lit up the entire time.

Alex bring up a good idea.

  5. Hi Gwynny Pyg.

Please open device manager, click on view, click on show hidden devices.

Connect the mouse you want to use. Uninstall all greyed out mice.

Next could you uninstall all keyboards, Windows will re-install what it needs.

    Restart device (not a shutdown)

    Test

If you are still having issue could you check your Windows Update history, at the bottom are drivers it installed for you. Any driver updates, for any hardware in the last week?

Have you installed any new software or made any hardware changes in the last few days?

There was a windows update released Monday, did your problems start shortly after this? (Your machine may not have rebooted until Tuesday or Wednesday.)

  6. Hi Ken. No driver updates in the last week, and no new software or hardware. The problem started last Wednesday about two hours after connecting a new mouse, so it might be related to the driver update? I've done all you said but unfortunately the problem remains. Thanks for your reply *Smile

  7. So if you connect your old mouse and delete all hidden mice and their software does you machine work okay with just the old mouse.

What kind of mouse is your new mouse? Have you tried an older driver for this new mouse?

  8. Wireless mouse points but doesn't type

No Ken the old mouse will still not work after that, the pointer just doesn't appear. The new one is Microsoft. Just how do I go about using an older driver with the new mouse? Cheers

  9. Actually the problem has worsened because it's now very problematic to type at all. It's very stop start; pressing keys works, then not, then works again.

I looked again in Device Manager and there was now two keyboards listed instead of one. So I uninstalled both and restarted, and they both reappeared and the problem remains.

  10. Okay. Please connect the keyboard and the old mouse and assuming you have restore points enable you can try a system restore to a time before you installed the new mouse.

Right click Start, left clcik run, type sysdm.cpl, system protection tab, system restore.

Failing that I would try an in place repair. Something has been corrupted.

I always recommend members make a backup of their data. The process is supposed to be non destructive.

When you do this install the mouse you want to use. By the way is mouse and keyboard plugged into USB 2.0 ports?

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

  11. Thanks I'll try that soon. They are USB 3.0 ports.
