Windows treating microphone as speaker after audio driver update

First things first, don't tell me i have it plugged into the wrong port. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3567 and it only has one aux port. Now for some background; For all the time i had this laptop, every time if i plugged something into the aux port, it would ask me "Which device did you just plug in?" and give me a list of options to choose from between stuff like headsets, external speakers, mic in etc. etc.One day, Discord calls seemed to completely screw up the sound for the entire computer, making it cut off over and over. I did some research and found that i needed to update my audio drivers

    :)

Windows 10 treating microphone as speakers

I have a CAD u1 usb microphone that worked fine for months on my machine. Suddenly it is being treated as "speakers" by Windows 10. I have tried uninstalling the drivers, updating the drivers, anything I could think of. Every time I plug it back in,
it's listed as "C-Media USB Sound Device" with the Speakers label in Output Devices.

I can't find any drivers at all from the manufacturer website.

Conexant CX20751 Windows 10 Audio Driver Microphone Issues

I have the same laptop and problem.
Mine also has the same behavior as yours.

After trying Win 7 and 10 (Lenovo and default driver), I used Win 7 driver with following settings, level set to 70, +36 dB, and used built in microphone (you can set this in SmartAudio application).

The default Windows 10 driver (through Windows Update) works best, but it introduces hiss to the speaker and the headset even when no audio playing.

Sennheiser GSP 350. Microphone stops working when I open any game

Wow, ok. I think I've fixed it by accident while fiddling around.

It appears to be the Realtek audio being the issue here. I don't use my onboard sound card as my headset is a USB headset only and my speakers are plugged into an ASUS sound card.

    Step by step fix:
    • I went into recording devices
    • I enabled STEREO MIX (Realtek High Definition Audio)
    • Then I set that Stereo Mix as the DEFAULT DEVICE (At this point it took over both input and output devices without my permission )
    • Then set my Sennheiser headset as default recording and playback devices in their respective windows even though they both still said they were the default devices when they weren't
Headset microphone is currently functioning while in game now. I'll update the thread if it goes again. Should I completely disable Realtek audio??? Or will windows just force it to work again?
