press the Windows Start or WIN icon - then in the search text field - type text - notice nothing is seen and no input is accepted. KB and Mouse are working everywhere else in Windows as well as applications Edge, Word, Excel, Login passwords, etc.

  2. Keyboard input either not working or double typing on start menu & OS input fields

I am running Windows 11 up to date on a Dell XPS 15 9560. I have been having problems with the start menu, desktop and other OS text input fields. In some areas no keyboard inputs are recognised, for example in the start menu I cannot search for anything as no text is entered when I type, this includes with both the built in laptop keyboard and using the windows on screen keyboard. Keyboard shortcuts eg to paste text into the start menu search box also do not work, although right clicking and pasting does.

In other areas within the os all keyboard inputs are double typed, for example when trying to enter a wifi key. This also includes functions such as the delete and backspace key, which are performed twice (ie two characters deleted). This behavior extends to the settings app, although file explorer works normally. In all other non-OS related applications the keyboard functions normally, so this behavior is restricted to windows os-related features.

I have ran the keyboard troubleshooter which found no issues and recommended no changes. This behavior has persisted across multiple OS updates over the last few weeks.

  3. Keyboard and mouse inputs cancel if holding and multiple inputs cannot be used at the same time

I updated Windows 11 yesterday, and now my mouse and keyboard do not work properly. I first noticed the issue while playing Minecraft, but I can not press multiple keyboard keys at once, such as pressing ctrl and w to sprint in-game, if I try to do so, the first input pressed is canceled and I have to press it again to continue moving. Key combinations will work for maybe a second or less before the first input is cancelled. Mouse inputs also interrupt keyboard inputs. I can only capitalize letters if I press the key combination very quickly. Held mouse inputs also cancel after a few seconds, such as dragging and dropping an icon or trying to highlight text. In device manager it says my keyboard is not plugged in even though it is my integrated laptop keyboard. I have tried reinstalling and updating drivers, but nothing works. The only thing left I can think to do is reinstall Windows. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thank you

  4. Hellopaul Win User

Windows START text search field does not take keyboard inputs mouse and key inputs work...

Using the tab key to hop between text fields highlights all buttons

    Hello,
Whenever a dialog box pops up in Windows 10, if it contains text input fields and clickable buttons/radio buttons/checkboxes, pressing the tab key steps through every single item in the dialog box, which is very annoying and, to me, pointless. Do I recall that there might be a way to limit this behaviour so the tab key only highlights text input boxes, and not every single element? I can't find anything useful in Windows 10's Settings/Control Panel - am I missing something or is this not possible?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
