  1. windows only has 2 restore points despite lots of memory

I've seen a few answers to this and they have windows deleting restore points after major updates. Here's what happened to me.I was about to use a restore point available - one of two. What used to work now doesn't.I have about 100 gig for restore points and am using around 13 gig. Before I rolled it back I created a new restore point with the current config. Then I went to go back and try the older restore point that it showed. Now it's gone.It was available 10 seconds before so it sure seems like windows 10 now only has two restore points !I think once everything is working again I'll just dis

  2. System Restore Point Questions

    Thanks, Dave!

Suppose I go back to an earlier version of C: with the desired restore point, restore from it and create a restore point on D:, then reload the current C:. Will I be able to restore from that restore point on D:?

    Step by step:

    1. Enable Restore for D:
    2. Back up the C: drive with Acronis.
    3. Restore C: to an earlier date with the desired restore point, from the Acronis backup image.
    4. Restore the system from the desired restore point.
    5. See if Restore is still enabled for D:. If not, enable it there, with the same capacity as in step 1.
    6. Disable Restore for C:.
    7. Create a restore point. Since there's no availability on C:, it should be created on D:, and be identical to the desired restore point.
    8. Now put C: back to the current version using the backup created in step 2.

Will the system now recognize that restore point on D: and let me restore from it?

(Edited to add the explanation, and step 4.)

Restore points are using more space than is allocated?

Thank you. 1. 'Disk Space Usage' box clearly states "older restore points will be deleted to make room for new ones" but this is not happening. 2. Step 1 should have deleted all restore points but Step 2 suggests that it had found "older restore points". User settings are being ignored by Windows? Maybe a Windows 10 bug? Not a big problem. Just another annoyance. I'll just have to manually delete RPs from time to time I think.

    Restore points being deleted

    Hi.

If you have a complete backup image, I would clear all your restore points first.

The deletion of restore points are generally caused by any one of the following by-design conditions:

    1) You run out of disk space on the system drive or on any one of the available non-system drives, and System Restore stops responding and stops monitoring your system.
    2) You manually turn System Restore off. (not in your case.)
    3) A restore point reaches an age of 90 days. The restore point is then deleted because 90 days is the default time to live.

To resolve this, adjust the maximum storage allocation. Follow the steps listed below:

    1) Press Windows key + W on the keyboard to search Settings, type “System” in the Search box and then click System from the list of results.
    2) Click System protection in the task pane.
    3) Under Protection Settings click to select Local Disk (Cwindows only has 2 restore points despite lots of memory :) (System) and then click Configure.
    4) Under Disk Space Usage, move the Max Usage slider to the right to increase the disk space usage for System Restore points.

Note: If the protection is turned on for additional drives you might consider increasing the Max Usage for those drives as well.

    Does this help you?
