Windows 10: Windows Management Instrumentation Software

I received an error message "Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation Software. Windows files may be moved or missing". This was after I had tried to download Nikon Studio software from the Nikon website. Nikon support tried various things without success before asking me to run a System Report Summary which caused the above message. They suggested a problem in Windows. How do I resolve this issue

Why does Hyper-V virtualization depend on Windows Management Instrumentation?

In this experiment I disabled and deleted the Windows Management Instrumentation service in Windows 10 Pro 64bit. Do not try with your working PC. Here are the steps::

• Set dependency to only Remote Procedure Call (RPCSS) with reg command
  

For Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service (vmms):: reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vmms" /v "DependOnService" /t "REG_MULTI_SZ" /d "RPCSS" /f

For Security Center service (wscsvc):: reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc" /v "DependOnService" /t "REG_MULTI_SZ" /d "RPCSS" /f

• Delete WMI service:: sc stop "Winmgmt" & sc delete "Winmgmt"
  

Then I restarted PC and the Hyper-V services show this error: Error 0x8007000e: Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.





Question: Why and how does the Hyper-V depend on WMI service?

I purchased new Acer computer April 2020. System Information screen shows: "Can't collect information. Cannot access the windows instrumentation software. Windows management files may be missing or moved."

What is wrong and how can it be fixed?

Then I'll suggest you follow these steps:

1. Press Windows Key + R to open the run dialog

2. In the box that comes up, type services.msc and click OK

3. In the list, find Windows Management Instrumentation, and double click it

4. Change startup type to Automatic

5. See if you can open Malwarebytes, if not, do a reboot.
