  1. Windows Hello private Microsoft account overwrites VPN credentials on Windows 11

Hi,We have a notebook running on Windows 11 Pro 24H2. The user needs to connect to a VPN. We enter the credential domain\username and the password in the settings of the VPN.When we try to connect, Windows Hello shows a window and overwrites the username with the Windows Hello user name. How can we change this behavior?

    :)

  2. Credentials Needed to Access Computer over Private Network

    Hello there,

I understand you're facing challenges accessing shared files and folders between your Windows 11 Pro and Windows 10 Pro computers on a private network. Sharing resources on a network can involve a bit of configuration, so let's work through some steps to help you out:

    1. Create Matching Local User Accounts:
      • On both PCs, set up local user accounts with identical usernames and passwords.
      • Use these credentials when prompted while accessing shared resources.
    2. Adjust Network Discovery and Sharing Settings:
      • Open the Settings app on both computers.
      • Navigate to "Network & Internet" > "Sharing" (Windows 11) or "Network & Sharing Center" > "Change advanced sharing settings" (Windows 10).
      • Make sure that network discovery and file and printer sharing are enabled.
    3. Use "Connect using different credentials":
      • When asked for credentials, try "Connect using different credentials."
      • Format the username as COMPUTERNAME\USERNAME (e.g., PC1\John).
      • Enter the corresponding password.
    4. Shared Folder Permissions:
      • On the Windows 10 computer, right-click the shared folder and choose "Properties."
      • Head to the "Sharing" tab, then click "Advanced Sharing."
      • Confirm that "Permissions" for Everyone or the specific user are set to "Full Control."
    5. Windows Credentials:
      • Access Control Panel on the Windows 10 computer.
      • Go to "User Accounts" > "Credential Manager."
      • Under "Windows Credentials," add a new credential with the network path of the Windows 11 computer and the local account's username and password.
    6. Windows 10 Local Group Policy:
      • Type "gpedit.msc" in the Run dialog on the Windows 10 computer.
      • Navigate to "Computer Configuration" > "Administrative Templates" > "System" > "Credentials Delegation."
      • Enable "Allow delegating saved credentials with NTLM-only server authentication."
      • Add "TERMSRV/*" to the policy.
    7. Windows Defender Firewall:
      • Confirm that Windows Defender Firewall isn't blocking network sharing.
      • Double-check your network profile (Private/Public) and ensure sharing is allowed based on your profile settings.
    8. Network Troubleshooter:
      • Run the Windows network troubleshooter on both computers to diagnose and address network-related issues.
Remember, maintain strong passwords for user accounts and follow good security practices. I hope this helps you resolve the sharing problem effectively.

  3. Windows 10 not accepting Microsoft Account as Network Credentials

    Help, please?

I have three computers on my home network, all with Windows 10. They all could access each other's files through the network after entering my Microsoft Account as Network Credentials.

I replaced the hard drive in my laptop and installed Windows 10 again. Now it cannot access the other two computers, nor can they access the laptop. When I enter my Microsoft Account info in Network Credentials, it says "The user name or password is incorrect".

    What I have done:

    1. Double-checked that I am using the correct password with my Microsoft Account.
    2. Rebooted router.
    3. Connected laptop to network with a network cable.
    4. Tried everything mentioned on Fix Enter network credentials error on Windows 11/10, on the laptop and my main desktop without success.
    5. Created a local account on the laptop with a username & password, and I am able to access the files on the laptop from the desktop using that username & password as network credentials, but using my Microsoft Account as network credentials still will not work.
None of my computers can be updated to Windows 11, so please don't suggest that.

    VPN (Virtual Private Networking)

    Hi Julio,

A virtual private network extends a private network across a public network or internet. It enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network.

    Always On

Always On is a new feature in Windows 10 which enables the active VPN profile to connect automatically on the following triggers:

    • User sign-on
    • Network change
When a device has multiple profiles with Always On triggers, the user can specify the active profile in
    Settings > Network & Internet > VPN >
VPN profile > Let apps automatically use this VPN connection.

For further queries I suggest you to post in
    TechNet forum.

    Thank you.
