Windows 10: Windows Defender says I have another antivirus installed, but I uninstalled everything,...

I had Mcafee, but I decided to uninstall it and use Windows Defender instead, but Windows Defender doesn't turn on it says I have another anti-virus installed. I know for a fact that this isn't true, since I used the BitDefender to uninstall the program and manually deleted anything Mcafee that was left over like the installer. What do I do?I even used Revo to delete any left overs and it still says that

When the computer was new did it come with a trial version of McAfee installed (like my Win 10 laptop that I purchased last summer)? I had to uninstall McAfee, run the McAfee Removal Tool and restart the computer and that enabled
Windows Defender and it’s been running good for a year, I've had no malware issues and it runs an automatic quick scan without me scheduling it to do so about once a week and notifies me of the results.

Go to Security and Maintenance, look in 'Security' and see what program is listed under Virus Protection. Windows Defender will not be enabled and functioning properly if there is a program other than Windows Defender listed.
If BitDefender is still listed you may need to run the BitDefender "Removal" Tool again.

for any security software (Avast, Baidu, McAfee, Norton, whatever) that may have previously been on the computer (to include trial versions of programs such as McAfee or Norton) followed by a restart of the computer. See List of

Bug: Notifications Remnants & Defender Off After Antivirus Uninstall


This seems like a bug or, at least, messy leftovers.

I uninstalled Bitdefender Antivirus but it is still showing up in the list of apps to show notifications for.






The Windows Defender services have not started back up either and the settings page is greyed out.






I'm not worried about Windows Defender, I expect I can get it running if I wanted to, just thought I'd point this out.

I would like to get rid of Bitdefender in the notifications list though. Anyone know of a safe registry hack for this?
