Windows 10: Windows 7 to 10 upgrade using media creation tool not running due exe not being compatible

I have an old system running Windows 7 SP1, 64-bit. From what I've read, I should be able to use the Windows 10 media creation tool to upgrade to Windows 10. When I try to run the exe, I get this message:The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 or x64 version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. This message makes no sense because I'm running the 64-bit version of Windows. I also tried mounting the Windows 10 install ISO and running setup.exe. Nothing v

Using media creation tool on Windows 10

Is it possible to use the media creation tool a system running Windows 10 Home 32 bit, to create an ISO for a different version of Windows 10. Lets say Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. So it can be used to upgrade free a qualified version of Windows. Or maybe even
use the media to do clean install on a system that is already running a free upgrade.

The Windows 10 upgrade page states:

Download Windows 10

• We recommend using the media creation tool on a PC running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. If you run this tool on a PC running Windows 10, it can overwrite temporary files that are needed if you ever want to go back to your previous operating system.

What effect will it have on the system running Windows 10 Home 32 bit?

You might face this issue if the downloaded setup file is corrupted.

• Did you try to download the setup again?
• Did you try to upgrade through Windows Update?

First, I would suggest you to try updating through Windows Update and check if you are able to upgrade to Windows 10. If you are unable to upgrade through Windows Update, then I would suggest you to download the Windows 10 ISO again and save it locally
on the desktop and then try to run the upgrade.

Method 1

Perform a clean boot.
