Windows 10: Windows 21H2 Update Causing BCD Corruption

Hi MS Community, it's been a long day. I work for an organization and we're running into a big issue with all of our devices. Our devices ranges from mini-PC's to laptops. We have different service centers all across the state. We have many remote users. We have more than 1,000+ devices that are affected. I should note that our devices are on Windows 10 version 1709,1803,1809 and 1909. They are no longer supported and we need to get them to 21H2 using an in-place upgrade. To provide some specs, some of the systems are Lenovo M720q and Lenovo T480 and T490 laptops. They are all compatible with

What causes "Missing or Corrupt BCD file"

Recently my laptop blue screened with an error message that the BCD file was missing or corrupt. I recently had done Windows up dates (Windows 10) and an iTunes update. I did not mess with any particular Windows files.

Does anyone know what causes this problem so that I may attempt to avoid it in the future?

I have my laptop up and running, but would rather NOT have to go through the recovery steps again in the future.

Error code 0xc000000f, BCD corrupted

Hi Andre,

As per the description, I suggest that you follow the steps below to fix BCD

1. Right click on the Start Menu and select Command Prompt (Admin)

2. Here type/paste the commands listed below

Bootrec /fixMBR

Bootrec /fixBoot

Bootrec /RebuildBcd

3. Once done restart the PC and check.

What causes "Missing or Corrupt BCD file"

I have seen that message happen on many threads through the forums. Luckily, it has not happened to me. But why something would corrupt or alter the Boot files, I don't really know. All I can speculated is possibly the update alters the BCD store to facilitate
a reboot for the install and ends up corrupting it.

If it ever happens to me I am going to get a copy of the BCD store to see if something actually changed.

Glad you got it repaired. That is the only of the three similar problems that appears to be repairable.
