  1. Windows 11 Winsock blocking stream open to non-existing host returns immediately in service

In my server program, I create a stream socket and call open without making it non-blocking.When connecting to a valid host and port it works fine. When running on Windows 10, connecting to a non-existing host on my local network 192.168.0.xx, it blocks until the timeout and returns the expected 10060 Winsock error. This works when run as a service and also as a console program. On Windows 11 Pro, Version 24H 2 OS Build 26100.4349 it also works correctly when run as a console program, but when it is run as a service the open returns immediately with no error. Can anyone shed some light on

    :)

  2. Browser /connection security, hosts file and DNS service

You're saying that Open DNS(and other services like it) house their own list of known 'bad' sites, and by using their DNS servers, it will filter out sites based on that list?

Would you believe I was already using Open DNS servers.
This means the hosts file is moot?

And furthering that, if there's any bespoke sites I want to manually add, I could do it through my router directly.

Thus I can empty my local hosts file and turn my DNS service back on?

    How To Block Facebook

    Step 1. Explore C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.
Step 2. Look for a file named as hosts, then open it with Notepad.
Step 3. At the bottom of the file, add the line as shown below:
    127.0.0.1 www.blockingsite1.com
We have just shown you www.blockingsite 1.com as example only, replace it with the actual URL so that they are inaccessible to all.
Step 4. Simultaneously if you have more websites that would like to be blocked, just press Enter and repeat step 3 to add additional URL until all desired websites are added. Now make “Enter” at the last line of the UR
Step 5. Save and close the file.
After doing the above formalities all websites that you have entered will be blocked with immediate effect. Definitely this theory will help you to prevent certain websites from being accessed by your kids or anybody else for any reason.
