Windows 10: Windows 11 Reset failed and now computer is stuck

Hi there,Last night I tried to reset my computer but the reset failed. It was not connected to Wi-Fi when I reset it. It got stuck at 18% for hours so I turned it off. When I turned it back on it displayed the following. “The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click “OK” to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.” I pressed “OK” but it just restarted and went back to the same thing. Every time I press OK it just restarts and shows the same thing. If I could just access windows I could see

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

 

Windows 11 Reset Stuck on "Just a Moment" Screen Forever

I performed the reset through Windows Recovery and selected 'Remove Everything.' However, I encountered two issues:

1. The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error during Windows installation. As a result, the installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click ‘OK’ to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.
   
   • I resolved this by following a guide that involved running 'regedit' and modifying 'setup.exe' located under '/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/Setup/Status/ChildCompletion.' I changed the data value from 1 to 3.
     
2. Another issue occurred: 'Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation. Error.'
   
   • I solved this problem by performing the following steps:
     
     • Pressing (Shift + F10) on the keyboard.
       
     • Typing '(cd %windir%/system32/oobe/)'.
       
     • Typing '(msoobe)'.
       
   After executing these steps, the PC restarted but became stuck on the 'Just a Moment' screen indefinitely.
   

I attempted the reset process twice using local reset rather than a cloud download, and both times encountered the same two issues.

I also tried resetting the PC once while keeping the files. Although the reset was successful, I encountered the 'defaultuser0' issue.

No hardware swapped. The PC ran Windows 11 without any issue. I just had to reset it before selling.

Stuck in Windows 10 Upgrade

My computer seems to be stuck in a Windows 10 failed upgrade loop. I was running fine on a beta version of Windows 10, and then I came downstairs one morning to see it repeatedly booting, attempting to repair, then rebooting. The steps I've taken to diagnose are:

• Attempting to boot off a USB drive (with all drives disabled in BIOS) - this fails at the point of the blue windows screen
  
• Attempting to boot the machine itself and getting into "repair/safe mode" using F7
  
• Looking at the BIOS for obvious failures (e.g. RAM that should be there is missing) - nothing obvious is wrong.
  

I am fairly certain the build version was 9926. For many months, the system would attempt to upgrade, and then say "it failed" for some reason and roll back.

Suggestions for next steps?
