  1. Windows 11 & i7 2nd Gen

    Hi, I saw the support article regarding 8th Gen in order to migrate to Windows 11 but it didn't state what Microsoft has lowered the Generation too. I have a HP i7 2600 of which I was informed by Geeksquad it is 2nd Gen and cannot migrate. However, I was previously informed by their advance support that I meet the TPO.2 but that they weren't sure I would receive updates? I don't know what that means, all I know is I had just purchased this pc in 2022 and I don't want to spend more money getting a new pc that runs Windows 11. Can some one please help migrate this pc.Thank You.Veronica

    :)

    windows 11 and i7-6700

    My desktop is Dell Optiplex 7010 with i7 6700 @3,4 GHz (quote core).

    Microsoft upgrade site showed me " this processor isnt currently supported for windows11"

    however my laptop Asus vivobook A510U with i5 8th-Gen processor is supported for windows 11.

    I think microsoft has made a mistake by claiming that;

    • Processors/CPUs (Central Processing Units): 1 Ghz or faster with 2 or more cores. The processor in your PC will be a main determining factor for running Windows 11. The clock speed (the 1 Ghz or faster requirement) and number of cores (2 or more) are inherent to the processor design as it was manufactured and are not considered upgradable components.
    It sounds like they base one the built generation 8th gen and above, instead of process clock speed or 2 core or above.

    Windows 11 i7 7700 CPU

    I have multiple Windows computers including an I7-10th Gen, I7-7th Gen, and I5-8th Gen. I also use a 2021 iPad Pro 12.9, 2021 iPad Pro 11, MacBook Air, and Androids just as much as Windows. The Windows machines are running V.11 with no problems. So you should be able to upgrade if everything else is in line as the suggested list of processors is to prevent manufactures from releasing new W11 equipment with older processors.

    Over the past 30 years all manufacturers have followed the same path that Microsoft is now following in regard to compatibility, including the Apple MAC line. In fact, Windows machines have the longest history of compatibility of OS updates on the existing base of any manufacturer. Thankfully this is occurring at a time when hardware prices are lower than in the past depending on your needs of course.

    Since the primary reason for Win11 is indicated to be security, there are plenty of targets for our anger that includes the actual software developers with MS for leaving so many holes in their work and those that are developing apps and workarounds in an attempt to exploit the holes and take our data and hard earned money.

    upgrade to windows 11

    Sorry, I checking the latest list, and I don't see those I marked, on the list. At least, on this list I just now checked:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...pported/windows-11-supported-intel-processors

    Looks like no Intel Core i5 of the 7th gen were added to the list approved for Windows 11. Only three of the 7th gen Intel Core i7 and five of the 7th gen Intel Core i9 were added.

    AbhijitGtk, you are looking at the approved list for Windows 10 20H2. Not the same as Windows 11!
