Windows 10: windows 11 file explorer's address bar gets stuck on a previous location

The address bar shows a previous address often a search result address instead of where it is nowthe address it shows the address where it is actually, which only shows if I select the address.

How to have full path always show in Address bar in file explorer?

You can change the Windows 11 File Explorer address bar to show the full file path by following these steps:

1. Open File Explorer.
   
2. Click on the three-dot menu icon located at the top right of the window.
   
3. Click on 'Options'.
   
4. In the 'Folder Options' window that appears, go to the 'View' tab.
   
5. In the 'Advanced settings' list, find and check the 'Display the full path in the title bar' option.
   
6. Click 'Apply', then 'OK'.

Previous locations

Hi Matthew, the arrow in the right, that is on the Address bar - is that correct?

That is a long term memory of locations, that either been manually typed into that address bar or selected from that address bar

That list will stay alive even after closing File Explorer and re-opening it . . .

Think of that like the address bar in a web browser . . .

May I ask what entries in that list concern you?

 

Window 10 File Explorer address bar limitation

With Windows 8, file view in file explorer did not have limit on file path size and was be able to click on the address bar and copy the link

after one of the machine upgrade to windows 10 file explorer will display nothing or previous link when address bar was clicked

it seems it stops at 152 chars.

I have tried registry key longfilepath to 1 but still same issues.

any help will be gratefull
