Windows 10: Windows 11 File Explorer Folder Jumps to the Top Randomly, and When Creating Shortcuts

Hello,I am using Windows 11.I generally have multiple file explorer windows open.I "randomly" experience the folders jump to the top. I have unsuccessfully tried various resolutions listed in the following links.I recently identified that creating a shortcut from the folder "causes" a jump, and guessed that this may mean something to people who understand better than I do.I have an unresolved issue with the computer freezing, that may/not be related to the jumping.Can you please assist with the folder jumping issues?Thanks and regards.https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/win10

Windows 10 File Explorer will jump to the top of the list regardless of if it's focused or not

Like the title says, file explorer will just randomly jump to the top of the file list after a really small amount of time.

I don't know if I missed a setting somewhere or something or it's just a bug. It happens in the file explorer on my SSD and all my HDDs. Anybody else noticed this or can test it and see if it also happens to them?

This didn't happen in 8.1 or 7.

I've tried timing it and it seems random though it takes a bit longer if there are more items in the folder, it's scrolled closer to the bottom, and is the main window, sometimes. By longer, I mean it'll wait a minute and a half before jumping up. Sometimes,
it'll wait less than 10 seconds.

Most I've seen it wait was a minute and 48 seconds

It'll even jump to the top if I'm in the middle of renaming a file. It just ignores what I'm doing and goes up.

And it's not a scroll up and doesn't happen in other programs, so not my mouse. One second, it's where I left it at and the next, it's at the top of the file list. Help

I've been using Windows 10 since it came out in 2015 and this issue just started yesterday October 6, 2019. I found an old thread concerning this issue but my current windows settings are the same as those recommended in that post .

When I open a file/folder from within File Explorer (where there are many files and folders) and scroll down and open a file in a new window, when I go back to the (Main) File Explorer it has gone back at the top of the folder. If I scroll back down the
page to the file/folder I opened it's still highlighted and showing as chosen. This occurs no matter how far down in the folder I've scrolled.

As I mentioned I looked at all the previous solutions to this problem and checked my windows settings and they are already set to those recommendations.

Why is this just starting now after the last update and why has it not been fixed since it was an issue back in 2015?

 

"Create Shortcut" to a folder on a USB drive not working

Figured it out, and I have to admit it's (more than) a little embarrassing.

It turns out the generated shortcuts were being deposited elsewhere in the explorer folder window, out of sight.

The folder contents are sorted by Name, alphabetically, but with node type as a primary key, with folders at the top, using the List view. I have hundreds of folders in this folders, so I'm instigating this creation of a shortcut *of* a folder among a sea
of folders in my list.

What was happening is that the Shortcut *was* being created, but deposited for viewing among the files, out of my sight. I accidentally tripped over scads of created shortcuts when I was scrolling along!

Since I normally create shortcuts of files (not folders), the new shortcut is usually deposited right alongside the target file. I expected this behavior when creating a shortcut for a folder, but it was a mistaken expectation.

Problem "solved"; a dumb User error fixed by a slightly smarter User.
