Windows 10: Windows 11 explorer keeps going to desktop changing tabs

When I connect a mass device e.g. a hdd the Windows 11 file explorer changes the tab I am using, sometimes all the open tabs, to the desktop, which however also contains things that are not on the desktop such as connected mass devices. It does this every time I connect a mass device, and sometimes even when I disconnect it. Don't reply to me with ‘do a clean boot’ or anything like that I've already tried all this useless nonsense as usual.
