  1. Windows 11 24H2 - Broken Windows XP Hyper-V VM's FIX and Questions

After upgrading to Windows 11 24H2, it breaks Windows XP Hyper-V virtual machines. Yes I know it's not supported, even though it still works entirely stable, until now. What I notice is that web browser traffic doesn't work, even though I can ping IP's and hostnames, and also do traceroute commands fine. To fix it you can use the legacy network adapter instead of the regular network adapter set up in your hyper-v vm setup, however you can't do this in xp 64 bit vm's because the legacy adapter does not have a 64 bit driver. The other workaround is to turn off all TCP/UDP offloading in the net

    :)

Unable to Import a Hyper-V VM

    I built a VM using

    Hyper-V Manager: 10.0.26200.5001

    Mangement Consol 3.0

    Version 24H2 (OS Build 26200.5001)

I am unable to import it onto another system with:

    Hyper-V Manager: 10.0.22621.1

    Management Console 3.0

    Version 23H2 (OS Build 22635.3566)

When I navigate to the folder with the VM, it show no VMs available.

Is there a way to import the VM built using the newer Hyper-V manager version into the older Hyper-V manager? If not, how do I update the Hyper-V Manager to the same version as the version of Hyper-V Manager that I built the VMs with?

Issues installing & running Windows XP SP3 in Hyper V

I'm playing around with Windows XP as a VM in Hyper V for reasons I won't go into. I have a bootable Windows XP SP3 CD I created some time ago. I've hit the following issues.

    1. I can install XP from the CD but Hyper V seems to want access to the bootable CD whenever the VM is restarted. It would be faster to use an ISO file stored on a SSD. I've tried various ways to create a bootable ISO file from my CD but failed. What's the best way of creating an ISO file which will install XP and run under Hyper V?
    2. I installed a virtual switch using a legacy network adapter but cannot connect the VM to the internet. Has anyone done this and what are the key steps? Is it safe to use XP to connect to internet from Hyper V?
    3. I mounted the VM's .vhdx file to copy over some programs to test but this broke the VM's virtual drive configuration on restarting the VM. What's the best way to transfer files to the VM from elsewhere on my PC?

    Windows 11 24H2 - Broken Windows XP Hyper-V VM's FIX and Questions

Not able to connect to Ubuntu VM instance running in Hyper-V on Windows 11

Hello, I'm Felipe and I'm an independent Community Advisor, and I'll do my best to help you.

It sounds like there may be an issue with the Hyper-V authorization policies on your computer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check your Hyper-V authorization policies: Open the Local Group Policy Editor by pressing Win+R on your keyboard, typing "gpedit.msc", and pressing Enter. Navigate to "Computer Configuration" -> "Windows Components" -> "Hyper-V". Check if the policies "Hyper-V Administrators" and "Hyper-V Service" are configured correctly.

Make sure you have the necessary permissions: Ensure that you are logged in as an administrator account or a user with Hyper-V administrator privileges.

Restart the Hyper-V service: Open the Services window by pressing Win+R on your keyboard, typing "services.msc", and pressing Enter. Find the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service, right-click it, and select "Restart".

Check the VM's configuration: Make sure that the VM is still properly configured in Hyper-V Manager, and that it hasn't been accidentally deleted or removed from the list of VMs.

Reinstall Hyper-V: If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall Hyper-V. You can do this by going to "Turn Windows features on or off" in the Control Panel, unchecking the box next to Hyper-V, restarting your computer, and then checking the box again and restarting again.

If none of these steps work, you may need to contact your IT administrator or seek further assistance from Microsoft support.
