I thought exactly the same. Now that you have posted I think it's really true. Amazing really. I have had no issues with windows 10 on two machines for quite a while now. It does seem to be turning out like MS promised. A great OS.

BTW: I use a local account. Disabled IE11 and never use cortana. Also all privacy options are off (Max privacy through windows interface). I rarely use edge. This possibly isolates me from some problems, but seeing as many things are interwined maybe not?

  5. I tried this, which failed at the third step (if I properly interpreted what I saw on the monitor, with words to the effect that it could not run due to a pending operation, and to press any key to proceed. I pressed a key, which took me to the prompt, so I exited. I believe it was step two which also stopped while waiting for a pending operation, but it then ran.

Might this failure be an indication that my installation of Windows 10 is now so compromised that I need to a do a Non-destructive reinstall? (This file seems to provide proper instructions for how to do that: www.winhelp.us/non-destructive-reinstall-of-windows-8-and-8-1.html#reinstall .)

@Not Myself When you see that just reboot so repairs to system files can be made. Then run it again, and repeat if necessary. System files can't be repaired as long as they are in use, hence the reboot.

I got the same error...I assumed because windows was attempting to apply the update again. I clicked defer updates, rebooted and applied all the steps with powershell. A reboot and retry at the update then worked fine.

    BTW big thanks to Cliff....

  9. I had to start over three times, rebooting each time, but finally got DISM to run until it reached 100%, and eventually gave me the "Press Any Key" prompt, which I did.

I then tried twice to install KB3105210, with the same results as I had had before taking the time to run your script, namely that I see a `Getting Windows Ready" prompt, followed very soon thereafter by "Restarting," and a total failure to update Windows 10. This is what I kept seeing for KB3097617 as well, so that I now am two updates behind, and doubt seriously that any newer updates will actually be installed.

After the second try today, Notifications gave me an inane notice, one I have seen before, that the update was installed; it wasn't.

Any and all further assistance in fixing my copy of Windows 10 will be gratefully accepted.

(A moment later: I just noticed that someone else used PowerShell and was successful; ought I be doing that? I'm more or less involved here in things I know little if anything about; I did follow one set of instructions recently, source either from here or MS Community, which included going into PowerShell, something I know nothing about as to what it is or does.)

  10. After these updates, search wouldn't come up with any results and I got my first ever BSOD on this system. The search problem has since appeared to resolve itself and haven't had a BSOD since.

  11. Nothing I have done will allow me to install updates. I have found and followed a large number of suggested fixes, to no avail.

As that indicated to me that I needed to do a non-destructive reinstall of Windows 10, using the ISO created through the MS Media Creator, I have tried that twice today. The first attempt failed at 33%, with the usual meaningful error message that `something happened,' so I tried again, this time through a clean boot. Failure ensued, same useless error message.

I appear to be at a complete, total, thorough, even utter standstill, which leads me to a plaintive request, namely, what do I need to do to get Windows 10 to return to its former working state, where updates were installable?

    Hi guys,

I think I already had an update failure of a cumulative update before and had to manually fix that, can't remember. Now same problem as you. Any time when Windows try to install KB3105210 at boot time, it:

    - tries to install it 3 times (i.e., 2 reboots) - reboots at 62% btw.
    - reverts this process ("Windows could not install... blah") 2 times and reboots

That means, 6 boot processes until Windows runs.

I couldn't fix it yet and have no time for research, but my wife is already in rage mode because I broke the computer with Win 10.

Have deactivated Win Update service, until I see a fix.

*Smile Thank you to Cliff S for posting the solution.

After trying all the MS community site suggestions to fix this glitch*Sad, repeatedly*cry*Mad*Sick, and without success... ran this code in Command Prompt (admin) [right click on your Start button to find the item in the menu].

Granted, the DISM script needed to run overnight, the automatic download via the Settings/Windows Update window wasn't dowloading the MS update (had to go to the Microsoft Update Catalog using IE to download the stand-alone install package [Microsoft Update Catalog] and install it separately) but finally have the K3105210 update installed on my machine!!!

(... I think it was easier for me to fix the washing machine than to sort this out, very curious knowing how many other poor folks like me don't even realize that they have a problem *sarc).
