  1. Windows 10, unable to connect windows laptop to local NAS drive

Hi all,I've spent hours, but am really struggling with this - so welcome any help please!I have an old Buffalo NAS drive, 10 years old but still works well. I can access it fine from my Android phone via file explorer & all media works fine. I can also connect to it via Kodi from my TV.However, over the last couple of weeks my Windows laptop now can't access it. Even with the Buffalo Navigator app it can't be accessed. When i try to join it via 'my network' or the old shortcut I had there I get the below error message:''An error occurred when reconnecting L: to \\LS421DE2F0\ShareMicrosoft

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Windows 10 & NAS Box

    Hi Peter,

A few possible reasons can cause this issue. To help us identify the cause of this problem, we would like to know the following information:

    • How is your NAS box connected to your computer? (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or USB)
    • Are you using a program provided by the manufacturer of your NAS box to access it?
    • Do you receive any error messages when accessing your NAS box? If yes, what is the exact error message?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

In the meantime, we suggest that you perform the solution provided by omiklik (Most Helpful Reply)
in the following thread: Unable to see NAS drive on Network - Win 10 PC.

Keep us updated on the status of the issue, and we will be glad to assist you further.

  4. Windows 10, unable to connect windows laptop to local NAS drive

Error connecting to NAS drive. Local device name in use?!

System: Laptop running Windows 10 Home. Connection via Wi-Fi and/or ethernet to Synology NAS drive.

NAS drive folders mapped in Windows (e.g. M for Music, V for Videos etc.).

Problem: I've used the above configuration for a long time under W10, W8 and W7 but the other day I started to experience an inability to open mapped drives located on my NAS drive for several minutes or even an hour or more.

The error message on the dialog box I get says:

"An error occurred while connecting to L:
\\NAS\Music. Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. The connection has not been restored."

I get this for all mapped NAS drives but not for my wife's mapped laptop drive, which opens immediately!

Cab anyone shed any light on this?

    Thanks.
