Windows 10 killed my dell xps 2710

I don't buy it. Pure speculation, but I guess that the "engineer" who performed multiple motherboard replacements was a service contractor (not a Dell employee), functioning at about the Best Buy "Geek Squad" level. Couldn't figure out what to do, so swap out the MB again.

One of the biggest problems with 10 is the automatic driver updates through Windows Update. Particularly as they are done invisibly in the background. Fix a problem, wait a bit, reboot, and your system is hosed again due to the problem driver having been re-installed.

Another problem is Fast Boot. Seems like a good idea, but it affects POST (power on self test) behavior. Problems may require clearing the CMOS, which is not always easy to do with a laptop or AIO like the 2710.

A good feature of Win 10 Pro is that it allows driver updates to be turned off.

I personally don't think Windows 10 would kill a computer. It has to be something like perhapse a user error. I'm not putting the blame on anyone here but even I was hesitant at first before I changed mine over.

simply download a win8.1 iso on a working computer ,and burn it to a dvd or usb and boot to it and reinstall win8.1,if it has uefi bios you could run into issues with getting it to boot to the device ,but that can be done by changing setting in the bios ,, from reading this whole thread ,I think you are still this issue because you have yet to have it looked at by someone who knows what they are doing .
link to tool need to download win8.1 iso .

rufus tool to create bootable win8.1 usb thumbdrive install ,usin the iso you downloaded

Please, report back your status when done. I am curious if you got it fix & how you got it fixed (Step by step if possible). As, I said above I have an All-in-one Dell different model. Right now, I have totally stopped using windows 10 until I see what happens with your computer.

Well, it was probably not Windows 10, but something fried your MB. Are you positive it is dead? Usually Dell systems have any number of diagnostic lights or beep codes.

It's possible your Power Supply fried, I had a Gateway Laptop I was installing Hackintosh to and my power supply fried during install. The whole Power section got fried out, and no way to replace just that, it's on the MB.

But a Desktop particilarly an XPS system will have Diagnostic Lights on the back maybe. You might have to buy a new power supply if the main board won't power on at all.

Open the box, plug it in and turn on. See if tyhe power supply is running. Then check for beep codes. If the power supply is not running, then that's your culprit. Fortunately you can replace the power supply, check Newegg. If the system has a proprietary power supply, then google the system for a used power supply.

I am in the same boat as angry comp. The sad part is my warranty expired 12/25/15 and then this happened within a week after. I tried to get Dell to renew my warranty since I received the on screen message prompt / option to do so. Only Dell sent me an email reply saying my computer was too old. It's only 2 1/2 years old. I had upgraded successfully to Windows 10 on 12/15/15 and fell in love with it. And then my mb goes out. Naturally I assumed this failure was caused by the upgrade. Other research shows the mb for the Dell XPS 2710 has a known issue with the mb, which is likely why Dell quickly discontinued this model. Now I find out to replace the mb, if one can even be found, will cost $600 or more. I paid $1500 for my beautiful computer, it was manufacture refurbished. Again the issue is a black screen that flickers for a second and does not boot up at all. I tried to put the recovery disc in and still nothing and then I couldn get the disc out. Ugh!!! So if not the mb then what and how do I fix? I welcome solutions.

Unfortunately that doesn't give me a solution. I wonder though if the WDF Violation error message I received a day or so prior has anything to do with this? My computer wouldn't shutdown, it just kept in a loop of appearing to shut down. I had to power it off manually. Then when I powered it back on I got a message the system didn't shut down or something like that, can't remember, but it started up and then worked fine. But I believe the WDF Violation may have caused this?
