Windows 10: Windows 10 "cannot find 'C:\Users\..... \Desktop\Excel File Name.xlsx'

Good evening and thank you in advance for your help.


I am trying to open an excel document but receiving the error message above. The first thing to note is that it appears Windows has somehow changed the exe of the document to xlsx from the usual xls so perhaps this is the primary issue in which case how do I resolve this please? It has occurred to all my desktop Word 2013 documents too.


One other thing to note is that Windows appears to have created a new Program Files folder on my C-Drive although I am not sure how much relevance this may have to the problem in hand.


This all seemed to have occurred during an AVG Tune Up which automatically ran itself this evening.

xlsx files can't open

• Confirm which build is currently installed on your device. To check, follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key + R, then type in winver.
• Click OK.

• Is Microsoft Excel installed on your computer? If yes, which version of Microsoft Excel are you using?
• Are you getting any error messages when opening the .xlsx files?
• Did you create the said file or was it downloaded from a certain source?

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.
