Windows 10: Win10: Is there any way of shrinking the size of the enormous icons on the desktop?

In Win7 you would right click the desktop to control how things looked. But this is Win10, Land of the Insane. Is there any way of controlling how much space these things waste?To anyone thinking of upgrading to Win10 from Win7: I would highly recommend against it. Most of us do it because we're forced to due to incompatible software. Sure there are a few things that have been improved but the faults are so glaring mostly options that have been yanked away for no apparent reason other than abject stupidity on the part of the designers and management the upside is far less than the downsi

Font and Icon size

It's possible that some settings were accidentally changed, affecting your icons and font size. We'd like to learn more about your concern so that we could provide the proper resolution. We just have a few questions for you:

• Which build version of Windows 10 is on your computer? To check, click
  Start, type winver, and press Enter. For example, 14393.1066.
• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

As initial recommendation, we suggest following these steps to change the icon size:

• Right-click on an empty space on your desktop.
• Select View.
• Choose Medium icons or Small icons, whichever you prefer more.
  

Additionally, you can change the display size of texts and other items by following these steps:

• Right-click on an empty space on your desktop.
• Click Display settings.
• Under Change the size of text, apps, and other items, drag the slider over to 100%.
  
• If the slider is already on 100%, click Advanced display settings.
• Under Resolution, choose the Recommended option from the drop-down choices.

Some icons shrink

I've had this problem for years and just haven't bothered to ask why but I really would like an answer. Icons of the same size, same folder made by same program will be on my desktop then a couple of them will shrink. Never all of them. I have to change
the icon then it's okay. Then after a day or so a different icon will shrink. This has happened on every version of windows in the last 10 years.

 

Size of Desktop icons

Neither of the options suggested, to change the size of the desktop icons, are available in Window 10 or at least my Windows 10 .
