Windows 10: Win 10 on Lenovo workstation updates failed , and unable to check for new updates

Hi , Unable to check for updates on my Lenovo workstation - when checking update history get message Last failed attempt 6/3/23 0xc1900101- - the status of the check for updates does not show the usual green tick and you are up to date, just shows a grey 'check for updates' but when clicking this it just does not search for updates.i am stuck on 1903 and need to get updated, i have done multiple reboots but will not updateit is important that i do not lose any software installed as i have expensive software installed and do not have the installation discs.

I did not even pay attention to this update until now.
Just checked my update log and discovered at least 10 failed attempts to install it.
Checking for updates manually showed that I'm up to date, though.

Now I simply downloaded an upgrade tool from MS and few minutes later it is already at 82%.

Installed the update manually at the the moment everything is bueno.
It seems that Microsoft has a big problem in there update department windows 7 update has problems win 8 update has problems. Windows 10 update is so-so.

OK - Have disabled AVG and have turned off Windows firewall and have tried both suggestions above

Windows update troubleshooter found two issues that it was unable to fix

And resetting the update components made no difference !!

The issue still stands - the Win 7 installation will not update

And in order to upgrade to Win 10 - the Win 7 needs to be fully updated - is there some way round this - I need to be able to carry out a clean install - but using the original key code .....

There is NO error code provided

Any more suggestions ?
