Windows 10: Will A Factory Reset Remove My Microsoft Account From The Computer?

Hi, I'm looking to give my old PC away, but I want to make sure that the next owner won't be able to access my account that was on the computer. I did a complete clean drive factory reset and unlinked the device from my account on the Microsoft website. Is there anything else I need to do to make sure all my personal and user account data is wiped from the PC?

Remove account

I suggest you backup your personalized files first before removing the account.
To delete an account, follow these steps:

1. Press WIN + X keys and click Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
2. Type the following command and press Enter. Replace test with the name of your sister's account. Code:

 

After factory reset, microsoft account is still there

I suggest that you add a local account first on your PC, before removing the other account. Follow the steps below:

• To create a local account on your Windows 10 PC:
  

1. Press the Windows key + R.
   
2. Type netplwiz, and then click OK.
   
3. Click Add.
   
4. Click Sign in without a Microsoft account (not recommended).
   
5. Click Local account, type a username, and a password (if you'd like one).
   
6. Click Next, and then click Finish.
   
7. Sign out of the Microsoft account you want to delete, sign in using the local account you created, and then remove the account you want to delete.
   

• To remove a Microsoft account from your Windows 10 PC:
  

1. Click the Start button, and then click Settings.
   
2. Click Accounts, scroll down, and then click the Microsoft account you would like to delete.
   
3. Click Remove, and then click Yes.
   

 

If I factory reset my pc will it remove everything on the account as well as pc?

A factory reset will erase the device that you are using.It will not affect any other PC for resets.The lazy account edit is to run. C:\Windows\System32\Netplwiz.exe. A proper reset is to run the factory reset tool. Any data under C:\Users\USERNAME will be erased. The data on the hard drive would be removed with account edits. Tell your step dad " Don't forget to remove the computer from your Devices in your Microsofty account" . haha.. To run recovery you can do the shift + reboot Or C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe shutdown /fw

It will not effect the MS account Just use your personal E-Mail on next setup.
