I have installed Norton Internet Security in my Windows 10 Professional 64-bit Workstation version; naturally it turns off the built-in Windows Defender software, which is no longer necessary for protecting the workstation.Yet, I am advised by Windows 10 "Security at a glance" to turn on App & browser control, which means activating Windows Defender. It warns me that my 'device' HP workstation may otherwise be vulnerable.Aren't Microsoft security experts that design Windows 10 security features, aware of the way Cyber-protection applications behave when installed in W

As pre the issue description you willing to use Norton Internet Security on your system.

I would request you to use Windows Defender instead of any third party security software. At the end it is your computer and its upon you that which security software you should use.

If you have to use Windows Defender you may try the steps provided below.

• To toggle Windows Defender on and off press Windows Key and start typing
  Windows Defender in the search box.
• Defender will quickly pop into the search results.
• Give it a click and the Defender application will steal the stage.
• If Defender is disabled you’ll immediately know because of the frightening blood red color theme that decorates the main window.

• Click the obnoxiously big Turn on button to activate Defender.
• When everything turns green, you’re protected.

• You can run a full scan by clicking Scan now in the right pane. If you want to disable Windows Defender, head over to the Settings tab and uncheck
  Turn on real-time protection (recommended).

How to turn off Norton Security and turn on Defender

I currently have Norton Security on my laptop supplied courtesy of my Comcast account. It does the job as an Security program, but I suspect it's bogging down the laptop. I want to try just using Defender as I've read that it's now as good as any other
Security program out there. My questions are:

How do I turn on Defender and do I need to disable/uninstall Norton first?

If I disable Norton, do I need to disconnect from the internet first so I won't be without a security program til I activate Defender?

Does Defender have a backup function? If not, can I keep using the Norton backup function even if I turn the rest of Norton off?

Windows Defender Blocking Installations of Downloaded Apps

Hi Craig,

There's a possibility that the SmartScreen option is on that's why you're unable to install downloaded apps. Let's try to turn it off and see if it helps. See the steps below:

• Open Windows Defender Security Center from your Start menu, desktop, or taskbar.
• Click on the App and browser control button on the left side of the window.
• Click on Off in the Check apps and files section.
