  1. Why my USB-C stop to work after connect a external screen?

I bought an Asus ROG Zephyrus G15, and an external screen that would be able to connect by using only 1 cable USB-C to USB-C. Everything was working well after certain update was released between September-October of 2024. Then, after connecting the screen to any port USB-C, this stopped working after disconnecting the screen after using, no matter how long. Don't work or even give any signal to any other USB-C device. For a long time, I thought it was the cable or even the screen until I used 3 different cables with the same result. The biggest problem came when the only option to fix I found,

    :)

I'm glad they finally cleared up that you could use USB 3.1 Type-A connector the same way you could use USB 3.1 Type-C connector. For a while they had me worried I could connect screen only to USB 3.1 Type-C port.

Just when I thought we will have only two connectors (Type-A and Type-C) they brought up Type-B connector. Instead of Type-B they should use Type-A connector which is as robust as Type-B.
Well done, you screwed up again and now we will have 3 USB connectors in the future instead of 2.

  3. Why does external displays connected via USB C hub only works with the first USB C port the hub connects to?

I have a Dell Latitude 7420 laptop running latest Windows 11 from my company IT, which has 2 ports of USB type C and I use it to work both from home and office, where I also have several work stations I can connect my laptop to.

Wherever I'm working from, I always connect my laptop to a single USB type C hub that has 2 external screens connected to, into one of the two USB C ports on my laptop.
The issue is, that after I initially connect a USB C hub to one of the USB C ports on my laptop(let's say port A) it will be the only port from this point on that will recognize the external screens.

This means that the next time I want to connect the same USB C hub to port B for example, the external displays will not be recognized and I will be able to use only port A on this USB C hub.

Also please note that the same issue occurs if I would have initially connected the USB C hub to port B, then port A will not recognize the same external screens forever.

Having said that, I have some work stations where I always have to connect with port A and other work station where I always have to connect with port B and this is very annoying.

Is there a way to reset the saved display configuration in Windows so I will at least be able to switch ports?

Is there any other solution to this issue?

    External Screens on USB-C

    Hello John Robbrecht YU

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you're experiencing compatibility issues between your HP 830 G8 notebook and the Sounix USB-C HDMI splitter, especially since the setup works with a HP HDMI splitter and previously worked fine with a different notebook model. Here are some tips and recommendations to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:

    1. Check Compatibility: Ensure that your HP 830 G8 notebook is compatible with the Sounix USB-C HDMI splitter. Sometimes, hardware compatibility issues can cause such problems.
    2. Update Drivers and Firmware:
      1. System Drivers: Even though you mentioned your drivers are normally up to date, it's worth double-checking. Specifically, ensure your graphics driver, USB-C port driver, and any other relevant system drivers are up to date.
      2. Splitter Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your Sounix USB-C HDMI splitter. Some splitters have firmware that can be updated to improve compatibility and performance.
    3. Check Display Settings:
      1. Resolution and Refresh Rate: Ensure that the display settings for the external screens are set to compatible values. Sometimes, setting a resolution or refresh rate that's too high for the splitter or screens can cause issues.
      2. Extend or Mirror: Experiment with different display modes (extend, mirror, or use only one screen) to see if one mode works better than the others.
    4. Power Delivery Check: Although you mentioned the splitter is externally powered, ensure that it's receiving sufficient power. Insufficient power can sometimes cause intermittent issues like flickering or loss of signal.
    5. Alternate Display Modes: Some USB-C ports support different display modes (like DisplayPort Alt Mode). Check your HP 830 G8's specifications to see if it supports alternate modes and if any specific configuration is required.
    6. Try a Different Device: To isolate the issue, try connecting another device to the Sounix splitter to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the notebook or the splitter.
    7. Consult Technical Support:
      1. HP Support: Since the setup works with a HP HDMI splitter, HP's technical support might offer insights or known compatibility issues with third-party splitters.
      2. Sounix Support: Contacting Sounix for support can also provide specific insights into any known issues or compatibility tips with HP notebooks.
    8. Consider Alternative Solutions: If none of the above solutions work, you might need to consider using a different splitter or a docking station that's known to be compatible with your HP 830 G8 notebook.
If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards
