Windows 10: Why is windows toolbar search so terrible?

Here is someone else complaining about it too: How is the Windows search bar still so bad? - Microsoft Community That was 2 years ago, and it looks like microsoft did not even bother to respond. I wanted to open up a settings window called "microphone properties". I have to go through 5 different menus to get to this: settings>system>sound>device_properties>additional_device_properties, each menu has a different design, a bunch of misleading other choices, and there's like 3 other "microphone" related settings panels I could open up accidentally that won't offer the setting I wan

IE11 Google Toolbar no auto search suggestions, no search history?

Since the last Win 10 update my Google Toolbar won't list any search suggestions as I type and there is no search history listed. The Google tool bar will allow a search, but after a few searches no search history shows and no "clear search" button is listed either.

I have turnd on "Suggest searches as you type", and "store search histroy on my computer" in the Google Toolbar options.

Any suggestions to fix this?

Thank you for the detailed response. To change the search result's view from content to list, we suggest following the steps below:

• Open the File Explorer and try to search for files.
• In the toolbar, open the View tab and click List
  to change the view.
• Once changed, close the File Explorer.
• Open the File Explorer again and try to search to see if the setting has been retained.

How to get rid of all the tips and cortana garbage on search toolbar?

Hi, I don't have anything like that appearing as i've never configured more than the most basic Cortana settings.

Try Notebook (icon left on Cortana), Lists - clear those.




Likewise, check for any Reminders

- you've shown the search field for Cortana at the bottom of your screenshots.

(And remember there's one top right of file explorer too).
