Windows 10: why is my mouse not being recognized in the same USB ports my headset is?

Hi. I own a gaming laptop which has recently encountered an issue with my mouse. At first my mouse would randomly disconnect while i was playing my games every hour or so random timing which was really annoying but not unbearable. to fix this i had to take out both my head set and mouse from my USB ports on the left side of my laptop. Today i discovered that plugging my mouse into the right side of my laptop did in have the same issue. my two left USB ports now refuse to give power to my mouse light it up or let it work but in those exact same ports i can plug my headset into and my audio

Wireless headset only recognized in one specific USB port

I have a Thinkpad E540 with three USB ports. Two ports are occupied by small dongles from Logitech: One for a wireless keyboard-mouse combo, the other for a wireless headset. No problem with this setup until this morning.

This morning, after a reboot and a hibernation of the PC, I noticed that the headset was not recognized anymore. Sound went to the laptop speakers. In Device Manager, under
Universal Serial Bus Controllers, I see a line Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

The keyboard-mouse dongle works as before.

When I insert the headset dongle in the third USB port, it isn't recognized either. Same
Unknown USB Device message as above.

When I put the headset dongle in my other laptop, which runs Linux, it
is recognized.

When I swap the two dongles on my Windows PC, both dongles are recognized.

This doesn't make sense to me. Can somebody more knowledgeable than me suggest a log file or other place where I might find information as to what's going on here?

 

USB Port not recognizing device

I have an HP Revolve 810 Elitebook. One of the two usb ports will recognize a thumbdrive but not my plantronics head set. I can't seem to find where to do any troubleshooting on the usb port. The headset works on another computer just fine, is recognized
and configured immediately. I have a mouse receiver in the "good" port, and it won't work on the other usb port either. The plantronics head set works in the "good" usb port. I note that there appears to be a lightning bolt icon next to the SS usb symbol
on the good port. The "bad" usb port lettering and icon are rubbed off.

Does anyone know where to trouble shoot or see the USB ports and what might be the cause of the issue?

• Have you tried connecting your device tracker to a different USB port on your computer?
• If so, was it detected?
• Did you receive any error messages?
