Why does the system take so much RAM?

Why is there a total of 5GB of memory used when all the processes together only use over 2GB? Why does the system take so much RAM?

The size of text, apps, and other items in the display settings might be higher than 100%. For us to isolate your concern, we would like to ask these questions:

• Type in Display, and then select Display settings
  from the list of results.
• Under Change the size of text, apps, and other items, make sure that it is on
  100% only. If not, change it to 100% by moving the slider from right to left.

Is there a way to calculate how much percentage a picture is taking up in a page?

That would mean I'd need to individually know the size of each picture per page. If I had a hundred pictures, that'd take up too much time. Is there a feature of word that does that?
