  2. Defender offline scan stops at 91%

    Adding to quietman7's expert advice:

Please check the Defender offline log located at C:\Windows\Microsoft Antimalware\Support\msssWrapper.log

Go to the tail end of the log and look for the line that says "Offline scan completed with 0x00000000".

If that line exists with the mentioned error code (0x00000000), it means the scan was successful. 0x00000000 is ERROR_SUCCESS, which means there were no errors. Ignore the progress bar/indicators because they're not accurate -- it's most likely just a cosmetic issue. See also Microsoft Defender Offline Scan Stops at 91%?

  3. Defender offline scan stops at 91%

I'm a windows 11 user. When I run the Windows defender offline scan to confirm the security of my computer, it scans a long time on 91% and then it finishes. I cannot see the results of the scan in the windows security app. Why is it? Is it a malware? If so, where can I find the results of the offline scan? Please help.

What type of scan are you using?

Windows Defender Offline offers several ways to scan for malware

    • Quick Scan only checks the areas of your computer most likely to contain malware...the most prevalent and common places where malware typically hides. The length of time for performing a Quick scan will vary but it generally takes about 15-30 minutes so they can be performed daily.
    • Full Scan is much more comprehensive since it scans the entire entire hard drive (all folders/files) which can number in the thousands to hundreds of thousands. The length of time for performing a Full scan will also vary but because it is so comprehensive, this type of scan can take several hours. Most Full Scans can be scheduled to run late at night when not using the computer so you can perform a weekly scan without having to monitor it.
    • Custom Scan allows the user to select any files and folders on the hard drive to be scanned.
    • Microsoft Windows Defender Offline
In most cases when performing routine security checks no matter what anti-virus/anti-malware scanner you are using, only a Quick Scan is needed since it checks the areas of your computer most likely to contain malware...the most prevalent and common places where malware typically hides. A Full Scan is much more comprehensive and can take a long time since it checks the entire hard drive (all folders/files) which can number in the thousands. The length of time for performing this type of scan varies because it is so comprehensive and therefore can take several hours. As such, a Full scan is generally recommended only for heavily infected systems...showing obvious indications (signs of infection and malware symptoms) that something is wrong.
