  1. Why does my mouse pointer change to the vertical resize cursor on my 2 non main displays?

I am using Windows 11.My mouse cursor is set to Normal Select Windows Inverted, and this works perfectly on my main screen. And until yesterday it also worked perfectly on my 2 other displays. But today without any changes being made to the system AFAIK when I move the cursor to either of the 2 secondary displays it changes to the vertical resize cursor ie vertical line with an up arrow at the top and down arrow at the bottom. This makes it extremely difficult to use the cursor on the secondary windows as you cannot reliably tell where the mouse is pointingIt does not change to other curs

    Mouse cursor displayed without offset

When the mouse cursor changes to one that should be displayed with an offset (e.g., the hand cursor should be displayed slightly to the left so that the tip of the finger matches the mouse position) it is not and instead is drawn with the same position as the default pointer.

This is not specific to any program. Hovering a link the web browser shows the hand cursor to the right of where it should be. The cross-hair pointer in paint is down and to the right of where it should be. The I-beam cursor for text selection is to the right in any text editor, etc. (oddly, Steps Recorder's screen shots show the cursor in the correct position, though it was wrong when the recording was in progress.) Only the arrow pointer where the tip is in the top-left and needs no offset is correct.

    I've tried the following:

    • Rebooted the computer
    • Removed the mouse from device manager, then reconnected it on a different USB port
    • Checked for windows updates, installed, and rebooted
    • Changed the mouse pointer settings (speed, appearance, DPI, etc.)
    • Installed the latest drivers for the graphics card and rebooted.
With no effect on the issue.

  3. How can the detection zone for the window resize cursor be increased?

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

Unfortunately, there's no built-in setting in Windows to specifically increase the detection zone for the window resize cursor. However, there are a few workarounds that may help:

    1. Increase Mouse Pointer Size:
      • Go to Settings -> Ease of Access -> Cursor & pointer
      • Here, you can increase the pointer size, which might make it easier to hit the detection zone.
    2. Adjust Mouse Sensitivity:
      • Go to Control Panel -> Mouse -> Pointer Options
      • Decrease the mouse speed or enable Enhance pointer precision . This can make the mouse movement more controlled and accurate, making it easier to hit the detection zone.
    3. Change Display Scaling:
      • Go to Settings -> System -> Display
      • Under Scale and layout , you can increase the size of text, apps, and other items. This will also increase the size of window edges, making the detection zone larger. However, this will also make everything else on the screen larger.
    4. Use Keyboard Shortcuts:
      • To resize windows without using the mouse, you can use the keyboard shortcut Alt + Space , then press S for size or M for move, and use the arrow keys to resize or move the window.

    Best regards
