  2. What the **** is svchost.exe (netsvcs), akamai technologies, downloading to my PC?

I have Windows 10. My Internet has been VERY slow recently. YouTube videos don't stream. They take forever to buffer. I checked Task Manager and noticed svchost on my Network was using 5 Megabits per second! I opened Resource Monitor and traced the IP
address to Akamai Technologies. I don't have any programs that I am aware of that use Akamai Technologies. Does Microsoft use them to transmit Windows Updates? I know the Windows 10 Creator's Update is deploying April 11, 2017. Could it be the downloader getting
ready for Tuesday? Someone with knowledge please fill in the gaps and let me know if this thing is safe or not. I keep ending the task to reclaim my network bandwidth but it starts downloading at 5Mbps again every time I start up my computer.

What is this Akamai Technologies stuff?

It's not a matter of "improving things" : without the Akamai network in place, 400,000,000 Win10 installations yammering away would have squashed Microsoft's servers, flat.

But it isn't your system's OS deciding to connect through Akamai. If you connected to those Microsoft IP's through a Linux distro or a Mac, they'd still go through the cacheing service, and if you go looking for cat videos, you probably won't be, on any
    system.

I'd take a look at the 70% usage, if constant, though : apart from updates, telemetry doesn't take up that much bandwidth. There are third-party programs that will shut Win10 telemetry down solid, however poking around for more Settings to unset, and checking
your Startups for third-party updaters would also be prudent.
