Windows 10: Why do some folders in OneDrive show an incorrect status icon?

My OneDrive folder is set up so that all files and folders are "kept on this device". Despite this, there are three folders which show as "Sync pending". Opening these folders, there are a few sub-folders also showing as "Sync pending", but the status icon is incorrect, as all files within the sub-folders *are* synced, with the white-on-green status tick. There are no hidden files in these folders. Changing these sub-folders to "Free up space" then back to "Always keep on this device" does not resolve the issue. Why are these folders and sub-folders showing an incorrect status? What can I do

OneDrive Folder Icon Incorrect

This happened a few months back and I gave up in frustration because I couldn't figure the issue out. My OneDrive folder icon no longer shows the correct icon and instead displays the default folder icon (see screenshots below)

The actions I've taken are resetting OneDrive, uninstalling/reinstalling it, Command Prompt health/disk checks, and finally I reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows 11 convinced that would fix it. Well, that did fix the issue until I entered in my account information into OneDrive. Once I did that, the folder changed back to the incorrect one. The odd thing is that I have OneDrive in the Explorer side bar and that shows the correct icon. So I'm out of ideas and my online searches found other people having this issue but without any clear steps to resolve it. Any help would be appreciated because my next step is to just ditch OneDrive all together.

onedrive status icons are incorrect

I'm using OneDrive, syncing across 3 devices (one of them a Mac).

The sync function works fine, but is misleading as the status Icons are incorrect. I'll get a "circular" icon on folders (which would indicate they are still synching); but they are not; if I open that folder all folders and files underneath have the solid
green with checkbox showing completely synched.

Some will show the green outline circle with checkbox (meaning some files inside may be cloud only); if I right click on that I see that the option for "Always keep on this device" is checked and sure enough when I look inside the folder all subfolders and
files are solid green with checkbox..

I know all the files are syncing correct as all files have been copied over from a competing cloud file service; so on my laptop I can count files (and space) by folder as needed to very file file/folder/space counts for any folder.

Others have this issue? any Fix?

Note I'm not having the issue of "no overlays" as some have when using multiple (like maybe 8 or more) file syncing services.

I understand your concern and suggest you to Unlink OneDrive and run OneDrive setup
again and check. Here is the steps:

• 
  Right-click the white OneDrive cloud icon in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar.
  
  
  
  (You might need to click the Show hidden icons arrow next to the notification area to see the
  OneDrive icon.)
  
• 
  Click Settings, and then click Unlink.
  
• 
  Follow the steps in the Welcome to OneDrive wizard to set up OneDrive.
