On the lower right corner of my screen there is a bell shape that gives me notifications. I keep getting a Security notification that says: Reconnect your drive, your file history drive was... Then I click on it and a box pops up that says: "Your files will be temporarily copied to your hard drive until you reconnect your file history drive and run a backup."Why am I getting this message. I think my computer is compromised. I have not done anything to get this message. My computer is doing things I am not aware of sometimes. Help. I don't know how to do what it is telling me I should d

Disconnect and reconnect File History drive

To stop file history using a drive, you can try the steps listed below.



Ideally, File History will save copies of your files every hour, so disconnecting and reconnecting the backup drive every hour would be a tedious task. However, if you still would like to go for it, you may try the steps listed
below.

• Open Settings and go to Update & Security > Backup using File History.
  
• Scroll down to Backup to a different drive
  and choose Stop using the drive to disconnect the drive.
  
• Later, when you would like to reconnect, go to
  Settings>
  Update & security>
  Backup>
  Add a drive to reconnect the drive.

I cannot reconnect my file history file drive

 

Mapped Network Drive Disconnects and Will Not Reconnect

OS:Windows 10 V20H2
PC: Dell XPS8940
Router: Netgear R7000 w/ TomatoUSB

• Nine of ten mapped network drives on my desktop PC behave normally! The tenth is a problem. It is mapped to the USB drive connected to my router.
• Sometimes (days) I cannot connect to this mapped drive and it fails to reconnect. At that point I can still connect to this drive from ALL other devices on my Workgroup LAN. None of those devices have the drive mapped!
• For a short time, using "Net Use" shows the drive trying reconnect. Later it says "Disconnected".
• The only way I have found to reconnect to that drive is to perform:
  1. net use U: /delete
  2. net use U: \\HARENET-HD\data
• This problem has started within the last several months. Maybe it's related to a Windows update??

Help would be appreciated!
