Windows 10: Why can't we use reshades on Xbox Game pass games?

I was trying to reshade "Prey" and couldn't, same issue as some users reported a year ago https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-use-reshade-with-games-from-windows-game/48896051-a48a-42fd-ba3c-16e2a21664b2What do you plan to do about this? You're late vs GOG and Steam.

Hi.

A normal way to enchance video quality of a game with Reshade is to find the game exe and copy reshade files to that directory.

However games from windows game pass have a strange executables located in hidden directory like this:

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\DeepSilver.ProjectWindfall_1.0.11.0_x64__hmv7qcest37me\bastet_WinStore.exe

However I as administrator don't have priviliges to even open this file!!!

I haven't used ReShade with this game, but assume all ReShade mods work the same.

You have to be able to extract the ReShade mod files (or move\place the extracted files) for the game in the games main install folder,

but I don't know if you can do this with games from the MS Store

(I don't get games from 'The Store' because of MS encrypting the files, and their endless efforts over the years to turn PC gaming into a

pseudo XBOX 'experience').

I have a ReShade mod for Red Dead Redemption 2. The mod for RDR2 has a folder titled, reshade-shaders, and two .ini files titled,

ReShade.ini and Realistic Reshade Preset 1.7.ini

These all go in the main directory (with the games .exe file).

The actual ReShade tools .exe can be launched from outside the games folder (browse to the games location).

This will 'install' the base ReShade.ini file in the games main directory (this file gets overwritten when you install the games mod files).

However, because of MS's over the top 'security' feature (encrypting the game files) I don't know if it is possible to 'install'

the ReShade tool for any game from the MS Store, even if you give yourself permissions to open the Windows Apps and games folder.

- However, I also had a 'permissions' issue with RDR2 when using this mod, and this was fixed by giving permissions to the games main folder.

Not the RDR2.exe.

eg- R\click on the games folder and click on Properties.

Click on the Security tab > Edit

Click on the Authenticated Users option and tick the Allow box next to Full Control (this should automatically tic the box next to Modify ).
