Windows 10: Why can't I get rid of spellcheck?

I have followed the instructions for disabling spellcheck - specifically, I need it gone in Word - and it works fine until I open a second document beside the first which most of my work involves and back come the horrid red squiggles. Restart didn't resolve the problem. Help please!

Spellchecking is no longer finding the right word

Hi there,

In whatever desktop app I use, Chrome, Firefox, Discord, that uses the system's spellchecker, I never get the right suggestions.

• I've uninstalled and reinstalled my english languages packs,
  
• i've turned off and turned on spellchecking
  

It was not always like this, it uses to work well a while ago.

I've been busy the last couple of weeks to dive into this, but I'm still wondering what the issue is.

How to permanently disable spellchecker in Edge browser?

• Press Windows logo key + I key.
• Click on devices.
• Go to Typing tab.
• Turn off, Highlight misspelled words.

• Have you made any changes to your system prior to this issue?
• Have you installed all pending Windows updates?

For now, we suggest that you try the steps below and check if it helps:

  On the search bar type ‘Typing Settings'.

  ‘and then set 'Highlight Misspelled Words' slider to the
  "On".
  
• Also set 'Autocorrect Misspelled Words' slider to the
  "On" position.
