Windows 10: Why cannot I not receive my verification code email?

Hi I have been asked to verify my microsoft account by having a code sent to my email address but unfortunately the code never arrives and now I can't unblock my account. I have no other way to verify as the account seems to have disappeared from my authenicator app. You used to send codes via SMS to my mobile but I'm not being given that option now? I've just opened an outlook account to try to help and on that account I tried to put that same email address as a recovery address but it again does not send me verification emails to this email so I cannot add a recovery email. Verification code - I never get the code
