  1. What do I do after falling for the captcha win+r ctrl+v scam?

I was surfing the internet and got a captcha telling me to type win+r, ctrl+v and enter. I followed the steps mindlessly and realized moments later what I probably did. I restarted my computer and did a quick scan and then a full scan with windows defender but it found nothing. I reset my passwords and deleted the rest on chrome. what should I do now?

    :)

I am using Windows10. The keys left Ctrl, C, Windows Key, R are working fine individually. But the combinations Ctrl+C and Win+R are not working on the laptop's keyboard, whereas the same are working fine on the external keyboard.

The other combinations such as Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+Z are working fine.

I have tried to search in the internet, but no luck. Please advise.

  3. Please help, paste plain text (ctrl+shift+v) suddenly won't work for me anymore, but paste (ctrl+v) still does.

    Dear Cookie croissant,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

I fully understand how inconvenient it can be when a frequently used keyboard shortcut, such as Ctrl + Shift + V for pasting plain text, suddenly ceases to function. Rest assured, I am here to assist you in resolving this issue.

Based on your description, it appears that the Ctrl + Shift + V shortcut has stopped working across various applications, despite your comprehensive troubleshooting efforts, including restarting your device, updating Windows 11, and checking for keyboard driver updates.

Here are a few additional steps that you can take to potentially resolve this issue:

    1. Check Shift Key Functionality: First, ensure that your Shift key is functioning correctly. You can test this by trying other shortcuts that involve the Shift key. For instance, you can press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to see if Task Manager opens properly. If this shortcut does not work, there may be an issue with the Shift key itself, which would require further investigation.
    2. Reset Keyboard Settings: Sometimes, resetting the keyboard settings to their default state can resolve unexpected behavior:
      • Open the Settings app.
      • Navigate to "Time & Language" > "Language."
      • Under "Preferred languages," select your language (e.g., English) and click on "Options."
      • Under "Keyboards," remove your current keyboard layout and then re-add it.
    3. Test in Safe Mode: Booting your computer in Safe Mode can help determine if a third-party application is causing the problem. Safe Mode loads only essential drivers and services:
      • Press Win + R, type "msconfig," and press Enter.
      • In the System Configuration window, go to the "Boot" tab and check "Safe boot" with the "Minimal" option.
      • Restart your computer. If the shortcut works in Safe Mode, the issue may be caused by a third-party application.
    4. Check Edge Browser Settings: If you are using the Edge browser, you can check the default paste format setting:
      • Type 'edge://settings/shareCopyPaste' in the Edge address bar and press Enter.
      • Adjust the settings if necessary to ensure that plain text pasting is enabled.
    5. System Restore: If none of the above steps resolve the problem, performing a system restore might be beneficial. This will revert your system to a point when the Ctrl + Shift + V shortcut was working correctly:
      • Ensure you have a system restore point created before the issue started.
      • Press Win + R, type "rstrui," and press Enter to open System Restore.
      • Follow the prompts to restore your system to the chosen restore point.
I sincerely hope these steps help you restore the functionality of the Ctrl + Shift + V shortcut. Should you have any further questions or require additional assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.

  4. What do I do after falling for the captcha win+r ctrl+v scam?

    Ctrl + r key scam

I received a call today supposedly from Microsoft. The noise in the background was very loud. The man I spoke with had a heavy Indian accent. I asked him where he was calling from and he said Vancouver. So I asked him to let me talk to someone who spoke
"Canadian." He put on another man who still had a heavy Indian Accent. They did there best to get me to turn on my computer and hit the Ctrl and the r key. I pretended to do this and strung them along for a while telling them I could only see a black screen.
Finally I told them I had to go that my kitchen was on fire and I hung up. Just another scam.

    Really getting tired of them.
