What can cause poor relatively graphics performance in a computer?

I have a laptop with a RTX 4090 gpu and have had low graphics performance in some games. Avatar I’ve had ~50fps sometimes dropping to 20 during cutscenes on max settings, 2560x1600p and have seen someone with the exact same laptop but a 4080 say they got 90fps on the same settings. Red Dead Redemption I get 50-60fps on max settings and I’ve seen in youtube review for this same laptop people getting 80-100Black Myth Wukong I got 48fps while I saw someone get 68fps with the exact same settings, both in game and on Ghelper which is the performance manager for the laptop. This is with

  2. Dell G16 7630 Poor Performance

    Dear brandons_4,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

I understand your frustration regarding the poor performance you're experiencing with your Dell G16 7630 laptop when performing GPU-heavy tasks or playing games. I'm here to assist you in resolving this issue.

Based on the information you provided, it seems like you have already taken several troubleshooting steps to address the problem. However, since the issue persists, let's explore some additional troubleshooting steps:

    1. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest graphics drivers installed for your GPU. Visit the Dell support website and download the most recent graphics drivers specifically designed for your Dell G16 7630 model. Install the drivers and restart your laptop to see if it improves the performance.
    2. Check Power Settings: Confirm that your power settings are optimized for performance. Go to "Control Panel" > "Power Options" and select the "High Performance" power plan. Make sure that the "Maximum processor state" is set to 100% and that the "System cooling policy" is set to "Active" or "Passive."
    3. Monitor Temperatures: Use temperature monitoring software, such as HWMonitor or Core Temp, to monitor the temperatures of your CPU and GPU during gaming or GPU-intensive tasks. High temperatures can cause performance throttling. If you notice excessively high temperatures, consider cleaning the laptop's cooling system or using a cooling pad to improve airflow.
    4. BIOS Update: Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your Dell G16 7630 laptop. Visit the Dell support website, enter your laptop's service tag, and check for any available BIOS updates. If an update is available, follow the instructions provided by Dell to install it.
    5. Solo Direct: Check if Dell provides gaming or PC optimization software, some gaming notebooks support Solo Direct. If the performance is poor, the graphics card may be running in hybrid output mode, you can switch to Solo Direct mode to see if the performance is enhanced.
Computer performance is tuned by the manufacturer, and since you reinstalled the system and didn't find any significant errors on the Windows side, you can pretty much rule out a system-level cause. In this case, it's always best to consult with Dell Support for more specific guidance tailored to your device.

I hope these suggestions help improve the performance of your Dell G16 7630 laptop. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to assist you.

    Best regards,
