Windows 10: We couldn't install Windows 11 - error 0x80070002 - 0x20007

Hi,I've repeatedly tried to upgrade my laptop wich is running Windows 10 22H2OS Build 19045.2728 to Windows 11, but it keeps failing via Windows update and via Windows 11 update assistant tool . I've tried all of the usual solutions that people often reference - cleaning up the Software Distribution directory, running the Windows Update troubleshooter, running DISM & SFC but nothing worked out and I keep getting different error each time.Now the last one I got is this We couldn't install Windows 11 - error 0x80070002 - 0x20007 screenshot attached

Yes. Deleting the Logitech WebCam drivers from the driver store should resolve the issue.

The SetupDiag utility produced a bunch of noise, but I think the relevant part is right at the end:

"Error: SetupDiag reports rollback failure found. Last Phase = Safe OS Last Operation = Apply Drivers Error = 0x80070002-0x20007 LogEntry: 2022-12-04 21:39:58, Error DISM DISM Driver Manager: PID=2040 TID=1256 Failed to import driver package

It was the only error it reported.

I will take a look at this and see if I can nuke this driverstore entry.

 

2004 update windows 10 error 0x80070002

Hello everyone,

thanks to some of the suggestions here and to some from other sources I have managed to fix the 0x80070002 error breaking up my feature update to 2004.

For completeness' sake and since it may help others, the following steps worked for me.

1. Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website
2. Create a bootable USB drive with the MCT
3. Boot up from this USB Drive
4. Choose install settings, click 'Next', but on the next screen select "Repair your computer" instead of "Install"
5. Choose "Troubleshoot" -> "Startup Repair" and let it finish
6. Restart into Windows and attempt the usual Windows update

It looks like the BCD on my computer had been damaged by the boot loader (Windows 10 + Recovery partition) and running the "Startup Repair" from the installation USB Drive corrected the errors.
