  1. W10 Malformed filename rename

I have managed to create a file with 255 character filename.

I would like to delete this file but all attempts have failed.

This file resists all attempts to rename, move, copy and delete.

CHKDSK /f does not show any problems

    The filename is :

"GitHub - WRansohoff_STM32x0_minimal_GPIO_ Minimal STM32 project for using GPIO pins - as an example, this uses a button connected to pin B1 to control an LED connected to pin B3. This is a minimal project to demonstrate supporting two different chip a.pdf"

Chrome browser PDF print created this file in Downloads folder

I would ignore it, except it is likely a ticking timebomb

Here is a sample of Send file to 7zip error :

    ---------------------------

    7-Zip

    ---------------------------

The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

    cannot open file

C:\Users\PD\Downloads\GitHub - WRansohoff_STM32x0_minimal_GPIO_ Minimal STM32 project for using GPIO pins - as an example, this uses a button connected to pin B1 to control an LED connected to pin B3. This is a minimal project to demonstrate supporting two different chip a.pdf.zip

    ---------------------------

    OK

    ---------------------------

Notepad++ is capable of opening this file and Saving As a normal filename.

    Any ideas would be appreciated

    :)

  2. Malformed PowerShell command Get-AppXPackage error

I have tried all of the suggested corrections for a start menu that is not working. The last command in the most reasonable suggestion uses as it's last two statements PowerShell and the one listed below. I have tried
this command several times, making sure there are no typing errors and every time I get the Error message below. Is there any way to repair the database disk image which is indicated as "malformed"?

    >>> -AppxPackage -DesableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Get-AppXPackage : The database disk image is malformed

bulk file renaming (intention is to shorten filenames)

basically l have over 50 files that lm unable to download to the location l wish to on my laptop (each file is about a gig), however their filenames are quite long which leads me to the 255 character limit.

my intention was to originally use winscp to batch rename but lm not sure of the syntax, so my next idea is to download them to the rood of my C: drive and batch rename from there.

basically l wish to shorten the filenames rather than completely rename, currently the filenames have a unique 5 character alphanumeric prefix followed by the rest of the filename and extension eg SW854-filename.ext, l wish to retain part of the file name so l can still reference the files to my database and keep within windows filesystem limitations essentially l wish to output something like this SW854.ext especially seeing as l plan to move to an external drive once lm done processing the files.

is there any way to achieve shortening filenames while retaining important information? any solutions to achieving this would be appreciated.

  4. W10 Malformed filename rename

    Cannot change filenames

I just did a major W10 update and do not know if that has caused this problem. I cannot rename a file. Albeit .doc or .xls or .pdf. When right clicking on the filename on the desktop or in a filefolder, the menu with rename in it does not appear and
the whole screen flashes and reverts to the original desktop.

Also my Quickbooks will not run. I have done everything uninstalled and reinstalled and it will not open. OPens then toolbar goes gray and says Quickbooks has stopped working, so it never really opens. This was also fine before the update.
