Windows 10: VERY Slow Internet After Upgrade to 10

Have you updated the driver from both Dell and the driver manufacturer site ? Many are finding it best to update from the manufacturer site.

And have you ran Windows Troubleshooting for your network ? Right click on the network icon in the taskbar.

 

hello, thanks for reply. well, i update dell wireless network driver from Dell site. i think the Intel is manufacturer. ok i check if i can update the drivere. And windows troubleshooting show nothing, it said everything is ok. do you think the reason why this laptop slow down the whole network speed is because of the dell laptop driver?

no sorry. windows 10 automatically install driver which is: dell wireless 1702 802.11b/g/n . it's not Intel. And i install last dell wireless dirver for windows 10. but it didn't help. why it slow down itself and the whole network when downloading with it's slow speed?? it's interesting actually! you download with slow speed and at the moment cut completely others network to zero.

 

It seems to me that an updated driver is needed for wifi since your other devices run wifi ok. I had the same issue.

Have you tried the Ethernet connection to see if any problems ?

wifi driver is dell wireless, not Intel. however i install last intel wireless 19.1.0 proset64-win 10 and the latest dell wireless and nothing change. it drives me crazy. i'm not a professional user. even though i do all the things it need for install or update wireless driver whether dell or intel. i uninstall the driver and restart the laptop, after restart windows 10 automatically install the same driver(default driver).
i'm tired of this. do you think install a fresh windows 10 could help the problem to solve?

Do you have an Ethernet connection to test the laptop ?

Before a reinstall, I would google for more info on the subject. There are several threads on this subject in this forum.

yes i use Ethernet connection and the speed is normal and i can download with normal speed. but when i unconnected the cable as we expected the network slow down again.
what do you think?

I'm having major problems with slow internet speeds. I think i've tried everything in this thread with no success.
Since the latest windows 10 update my internet speeds have dropped majorly, I normally get 70 mbps now im getting 2-5mbps....Something is not quite right.

I've done a speed test on my phone and im getting what i should be 70mpbs, I have also tried a wirless adaptor from my Desktop pc and still getting slow speeds. I haven't tried putting an ethernet cable and running a speed test yet.

I've got a Dell L502x..seems to me that it is a setting within the computer as its doing it with a wireless adaptor aswel.

EDIT: Just ran a speed test plugged in with an ethernet cable and im getting 70mbps....

Best suggestion I can give is to try different hardware in the "gap" between your wireless modem (which clearly is delivering full speed) and your PC.

As in my case, it's pretty clear your issue is a conflict between the Win 10 update and the Wi-Fi delivery system. Since you get full speed via Ethernet and phone, it could be your wireless adapter, which likely is NOT defective, but Win 10 simply doesn't play well with it.

If you're using a range extender (as I am), try a different one, if that's practical for you. Win 10 caused a big slowdown through my Linksys range extender, but a new ASUS range extender gives me full speed.

If you're not using a range extender, try a different wireless adapter.

I was able to isolate the guilty party (if not the exact reason) because the old Linksys range extender still delivers full Wi-Fi speed to my laptop running Windows 8.1, but only 1-2 MBps to my Dell PC running Win 10. So the real issue is the Windows software.

Now I use both range extenders on my home network, with my laptop connected to the Linksys and my PC connected to the ASUS, and I'm getting full speed on both.

If you don't want to try new hardware, perhaps you could uninstall the latest Win 10 update and see if that returns you to full 70 MBps. Then at least you will have found the culprit.

 

No i'm not using any WIFI extender at all, When i done the speed test with the ethernet cable i also ran a wireless speed test next to the router with the same low speeds.

I've been on windows 10 now for a while without any problems, It's the latest one which installs cortana and the windows defender stuff that has caused some sort of a problem. Just don't know what it has changed.

 

So you have a modem and a router, and your phone is still getting full speed WiFi? Can you click to connect your Dell PC via WiFi to your modem instead of the router? If so, and if you get full speed there, then it's likely the Win 10 update is not playing nice with the router.

I do believe there is a way to uninstall the Win 10 update and go back to where you were before the slowdown if you wish. Personally, I don't use Cortana or Defender anyway.

 

I have an asus dark knight router thats only what i can connect too. i'll see if i can roll it back to when i installed the update in the recovery option in windows.
