Very painful and slow boot time and 100% disk usage

I've been having this problem for a long time, I've tried resetting my pc to factory settings, didn't work. I tried windows trouble-shooter, didn't work. When I boot I am greeted with a zoostorm logo for about 50 seconds followed by a black screen for 1 minute, and then a windows screen for about 30 seconds. Booting takes about 2-3 mins and even when I'm finally in, my programs load extremely slow and I can only open chrome after a minute otherwise it lags. Remember I have reset my pc so nothing runs on startup apart from steam. I have a gtx 970 and the latest drivers for it. Also I get 100% disk usage when performing certain tasks. my cpu,gpu and memory never go to such percentage and if they do its because I'm running a very cpu,gpu or ram intensive game. I have not changed anything in my bios since I got my pc and have never done anything to the disk drive (all I know is my HDD is 3tb and has a speed of around 120mb/s) The only thing I have changed on my pc since I got it was an upgrade to windows 10 from 8.1, gtx 970 from a 750ti and a 750w power supply by corsair. I do not know if this problem happened when I had windows 8.1 but even if windows 10 is the problem there must be a way to fix it as I despise using windows 8.1 anymore. Another thing to note is that loading times for games take a little longer than my friends and my pc is slow at downloading games, my disk usage when installing games is usually 13mb/s and I get 100% disk usage from using 13mb/s, As shown in this screen shot

As you can see by this screen shot steam is downloading fallout 4 and 14mb/s of my disk are being used and everything else barely reaches 1mb/s *Mad*Mad

    :)

  2. 100 % Disk Usage - Windows 10 - Very Slow Boot

Hi, I have the exact same problem, and no one listens.

    Disable this tweak that.

NOTHING alters the 5 minute start up.

If you work it out please post on here.

Microsoft have no clue or care.

As you say Have they read the problem??

  3. 100 % Disk Usage - Windows 10 - Very Slow Boot

A computer should run normally if there are no hindrance during the startup or unnecessary programs that run on your computer. Having a 100% disk usage means that there are too many background applications running that almost fed up all your remaining RAM
    (Random Access Memory).

We would like to know if you have already performed step#4, step#6, and step#8?

    These are:

    • Checking for low disk space and making some room on your storage.
    • Uninstall all other programs that you no longer used.
    • Checking for corrupted Windows system files.

If your computer has an application or process that is using a high percentage of memory or CPU usage, it will now require your operating system to be refreshed by performing a clean boot. This includes the resetting of system processes that are running
    under services.msc.

    Here's what you can do:

    • Disable all your third-party anti-viruses and enable Windows Defender only.
    • Keep at least 30% or
30GB of free space on your hard drive for optimum results.
    • Make sure that your hard drive is not full (With warning message indicated in
      red color).
    • Make sure you are using an Administrator account.
    • Unplug all unnecessary external devices that is not currently in used (External hard disk, webcams, etc.).
    • Have a stable Internet connection.
    • No background applications running.
    • All other programs and applications were closed.
    • If you are using a laptop, make sure that the power adapter is plugin.
    • You have updated BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) driver from your computer’s manufacturer.

To perform a clean boot, visit this
    link
for more information and follow the instructions. Once there, go to the
How to perform a clean boot” section.

Give us a feedback if you already performed these steps.

Wait for fallout 4 to finish downloading.Keep in mind that mechanical hard drives have much smaller performance numbers when disk reads/writes are NOT sequential. What hd tune does in order to achieve such high speeds inside benchmarking is a linear read/write,that is reading/writing data to/from adjacent sectors making the actuator and the read/write head move very little.During random reads/writes performance drops dramatically due to the fact that the actuator has to move the reading head all over the platter which induces a speed and latency penalty. There are some tricks in order to achieve higher throughput such as short stroking but you lose capacity. In the end my recomandation is still to wait for fallout to finish downloading/installing and then see if it still performs slow,or,if you have the money, buy a mediocre SSD just to keep windows on it,you will experience a gargantuan performance leap when it comes to aplication responsiveness/loading time.
As for the slow boot,I recommend a diagnostic boot,(run msconfig and select diagnostic startup).Windows will start in a fail-safe mode so don't panic if you see peropherals/software not working. If under a diagnostic boot you have normal performance, then most likely a program running at boot(either a driver or updater or something) is chocking your system.

Ok i will do the diagnostics and stuff and then report back. My disk usage does go to 100% from time to time, often while loading stuff and most definitely when booting up.

The boot seems to be quicker now and i get to the login screen within 50 seconds on normal boot and diagnostics but still 100% disk when loading apps and stuff. Also noticed that diagnostics startup still loaded steam and all my apps bu internet and audio was not working

This can be indicative of a failing HD and nothing you do will cure it
You could corroborate this with something like CrystalDisk but it won't tell you anything you don't already know
Time to clone to a new HD me thinks

  9. I would go for a Samsung 840Pro; I have one in both my desktop & laptop which has made a considerable difference to start up times etc.

Will look into getting that, Guess i will mark this as solved. If anyone is looking for an answer i think my problem was geforce experience!
Go to start type services and find the service NVIDIA Streamer Services. Right click and properties and change automatic to automatic (delayed start)

  13. Very painful and slow boot time and 100% disk usage

I would build the OS on the SSD using a Macrium image from the HD (or clean build if you prefer), keep the existing HD with it's Windows OS & partition it so that you can use the spare capacity as storage medium.

You will need an adaptor plate to fit the SSD into the HD Bay.

In terms of speed it can't be measured in terms of rpm as it is solid state
However, expect a much greater performance as mentioned earlier Very painful and slow boot time and 100% disk usage :)
I have the 850 pro and have been extremely pleased with its performance
    Adapter plate here
