  1. USB to Serial Issue

I have a similar issue to a previous one discussed - I have a few handheld radios that I need to update the frequencies and when I connect to the USB, it fails to connect. In device manager and Ports it says - "Please install corresponding PL2303 driver to support Windows 11 and further OS" I have tried different ways and still it won't update drivers/COM ports. I've run out of ideas as for a novice. Has anyone been across this and sorted it?When I try and update the driver I get this message - "windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already installed"

    :)

  2. Can't get USB to serial converter to work

Hi, here to work with you on this issue.

If Windows is indicating that the USB to serial converter won't start and suggests reloading the driver, but you've already attempted that and it still doesn't work, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Unplug and reconnect the USB to serial converter: Disconnect the converter from your computer's USB port and wait for a few seconds. Then plug it back in, ensuring it is securely connected. Sometimes, a simple reconnection can resolve connection issues.

    2. Try a different USB port: Connect the USB to serial converter to a different USB port on your computer. It's possible that the current port you're using is experiencing problems, and trying a different one might help.

    3. Restart your computer: Sometimes, a system restart can fix driver-related issues. Restart your computer and see if the USB to serial converter starts working after the reboot.

    4. Update the driver manually: Even if Windows claims the correct driver is installed, there's a possibility that it may be outdated or corrupted. You can try manually updating the driver by following these steps:

    a. Go to the Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Device Manager" from the menu.

    b. In the Device Manager window, locate the USB to serial converter. It might be listed under "Ports (COM & LPT)" or "Universal Serial Bus controllers."

    c. Right-click on the USB to serial converter and select "Update driver" from the context menu.

    d. Choose the option to manually search for the driver. You can either provide the specific driver file if you have it or let Windows search online for the latest driver version.

    e. If Windows finds an updated driver, follow the on-screen instructions to install it. Once the installation is complete, restart your computer and check if the converter starts working.

    5. Contact the manufacturer's support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's recommended to reach out to the manufacturer's support for further assistance. They may provide specific troubleshooting steps or advice tailored to your USB to serial converter model.

Remember to provide as much information as possible when contacting support, such as the make and model of the USB to serial converter and the version of Windows you're using.

I hope this is helpful. If you require any additional assistance, don't hesitate to respond to this.

  3. Windows 10 serial on OEM

    So I'll summarize steps made...

    1. Saved serial number (taken with Belarc Advisory) from preinstalled (half chinese language) Windows 8.1 (don't know exactly the version, suspect Windows 8.1 with bing) on tablet
    2. Formatted tablet
    3. Tried to make a clean Windows 10 (HOME, HOME N and also PRO, everytime with the same result) install with ISO taken with MediaCreationTool, during install (and also after completing installation) it says that the saved serial is not valid
    4. Tried to reinstall Windows 8.1 (ISO taken with MediaCreationTool again) HOME, it says that the serial is not valid

So i suspect that the saved serial, is from a WINDOWS 8.1 WITH BING OEM version and this kind of ISO is not accessible/downloadable anywhere (at least I can't find it, any suggestion?)

Still not tried SHOWKEY with that serial, I am in office now, and the serial is saved on a usb pen at home, will try this evening.

So I'm stucked but if everything is like I suspect, it's incredible. If I have a tablet/notebook/netbook with Windows 8 preinstalled, it seems that I can update to Windows 10 without problems, but if I want to make a clean Windows 10 install that serial is not valid...

  4. USB to Serial Issue

Issue with USB ports turning off

    Hi Mattx1,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

    1. Does the issue occur with all the USB devices plugged in to the PC?
    2. Does the issue occur when you plug in the USB device to any of the UISB port on the PC?
    3. Did you make any changes to the PC prior to this issue?

Let us try these steps one by one to check if that makes any difference.

Step 1: Suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter and check if that helps.

    1. From the Settings screen, choose Update & Security.
    2. Select Troubleshoot. Look for Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter and run it.
    3. Follow the on-screen direction to complete the process and if required please apply the fix it.
    4. Once it is done, please reboot the computer and check the status.

Step 2: Suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers on the PC to check if that helps.

    1. Press ‘Windows + R’ keys, type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run window and press Enter.
    2. In Device Manager, expand "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".
    3. Right click a device under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and click uninstall.
    4. Perform same step for other devices. When completed, restart the computer.
All USB controllers will reinstall automatically.
