Windows 10: USB A ports stop working on Window 11 boxes after updating. Best way to repair lost drivers?

I work in the IT dept and have been seeing this issue appear for the last 4-5 months randomly. On ProBooks G8,G9,G10s, and a ZBook. I was on the phone with HP over an hour and we are 100% sure it isn't a hardware issue. The pc can tell there is something in the USB port. It makes a sound and it will work with a Logitech wireless keyboard. But it will not work with wired or wireless mice, or thumbdrives. The only solution I've been able to find is to reset the pc back to factory and reload the users data. This is to slow to be a solution. From what I can tell it deletes the drivers for the US

USB Type A ports not working after updating to Windows 11

Hi, since updating to Windows 11 (Dell Latitude 3410) my USB Type A ports have stopped working (Power and Data transfer). My Type-C port works fine. I've tried literally every single thing suggested on the forums and many other websites (You name it I've tried it) to no avail. Driver updates, reinstalling, Windows Update, sfc /scannow, DISM, resetting device, Running Dell SupportAssist to update all drivers, Running Intel Driver and Support Assistant etc. etc. No drivers are detecting any problems.

Please can anyone advise me on the next steps or more possible solutions.

 

USB port stopped working

I had a USB2 port on the front panel that was working for a year but then one day it was not. I uninstalled / installed the device via Control Panel for both of the USB Composite Device listings but it made no difference. I thought it may be a bad connection but everything looked OK. Both ports had power according to a USB digital voltmeter. On the motherboard I moved the cable going to the front panel from one of the USB 2.0 Headers to the other Header & everything worked. At least for a couple months. Now the same port on the front panel does not work again. So I uninstalled / installed both USB Composite Device listings but it made no difference. Under Properties it says they are working properly. In Control Panel I did not touch the USB controllers for either USB 3.0 listing or for the USB Printing Support. The port was working a few days ago but now it is not. The only thing that really happened lately was a Windows 10 Security Update that was installed on 10-27-2022. Could that have changed something? Anything is possible but it seems strange that the same front panel port stopped working no matter which mobo header is used. Could one of my USB thumb drives be going bad & when plugged in is shorting out something on the motherboard? Any ideas & suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Method 1: I would suggest you to follow the steps to diagnose and repair the USB ports from the article -

Method 2: Update USB controllers.

• Right click on the Start menu and select Device Manager from the list.
  
• Narrow down to Universal Serial Bus controllers and update all the USB drivers.
  
• To update the drivers, right click on the each driver and select Update driver.
