Windows 10: Upgrading to Windows 11 when primary account is a local account

Hello,I have read a number of articles about ways to upgrade to Windows 11 and still use a local account. However, I'm trying to understand what happens to my existing local account during the upgrade process. I am using a work laptop. I started this job during the pandemic and thus have worked remotely the entire time. The machine was sent to me brand new, and I had to finish the OS installation when I got it. Since it is a work machine, I didn't want to use a personal Microsoft account and thus created a personal account. My laptop has a fingerprint reader which I have configured for a

Strange Windows 10 User Account issue.

Unfortunately I had done those steps numerous reboots, it just, reappears for no good reason. The base account isn't even a Microsoft account, it's a local account.

I haven't quite tried the built in administrator account on W10, but so far in my experience on my own computer, the built in account seemed to have absolutely no more control than I did on my own.

It's just strange, I go in, it warns me twice about deleting the account, then it's gone. Reboot, and it's back?

EDIT: Just to specify, both command line and Netplwiz both say only HIS account exists on the computer, it doesn't list this rogue account. This is what I meant in my first post about the fact that even Windows doesn't seem to believe it exists, HALF the time. *Frown

 

Local account installation question

I'm fairly certain that Skip this step was available in 10.0.130 - the workaround in Step 20 (back button) is no longer required.

The currently known, as of 10.0.130, ways to create a Local account sign-in are

• Skip this step at the MS account creation phase
• No Internet connection during the install
• static IP (post# 2 by Fragment) - New (to me anyway)

 

Windows 10 Upgrade Primary Account - Affiliated with wrong Live Account e-mail

Hi Yoshi,

As per your query, you can sign into Local Account
and then you can switch back to Microsoft Account. While
switching back to another account, you can provide the New E-mail Account.


I suggest you to follow the below steps;

• 
  Click on Start Icon.
  
• 
  Select Settings from the menu.
  
• 
  Click on Accounts.
  
• 
  Select the option Sign in with a
  Local Account Instead.
  
• 
  Once you are logged in to the Local Account,
  repeat step 1 to step 3.
  
• 
  Now, select the option Sign in with a Microsoft Account Instead.
  
  (In this method you can provide your new account)
  

Note: The above steps will help you to switch to users, which will act as primary account, but it will not synchronize your personal settings. The default settings will be set to
the user account.
