  1. Updating Windows/System Reserved Partition Error - Y:\Boot\Fonts>Y:\System Volume...

Follow on question from earlier post: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...448e-8726-b0faf7daec15?rtAction=1559664447072

My Windows cannot update as I believe that the partition is full. When this was made clear I attempted extend the partition using this link:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-in...m-reserved-partition-error-installing-windows

The section that applied to me was Windows 10 MBR, however upon reaching this stage:

Back up the permission to the drive by typing the following and press Enter:

    icacls Y:\* /save %systemdrive%\NTFSp.txt /c /t

I receive this error: Y:\Boot\Fonts>Y:\System Volume Information\*: Access is denied.

What am I meant to do with this? It says make sure all files are verified and none failed, but gives no further explanation on what to do if it fails?

    :)

  2. System reserved partition clearance

    I've been following

My main goal is to instal windows 10.

    However got

"we couldn't update the system reserved partition"

Mine is to full. Need to free up 15mb

Found your link on how to free space.

I'm using a Samsung 500gb ssd, its MBR

    Got too step 11.

    Typed in icacls Y:\* /save %systemdrive%\NTFSp.txt /c /t

    resulted in

    Y:\Boot\Fonts>icacls Y:\* /save %systemdrive%\NTFSp.txt /c /t

    Permission denied

successfully processed 0 files; Failed processing 0 files

    Typed in Whoiam

    Resulted in

    Y:\Boot\Fonts>whoiam

    emanuel-pc\emanuel

Then, as instructed, tried to change my permissions with

    icacls . /grant <username you got from whoami>:F /t

    Tried all of the below

    icacls . /grant emanuel:F /t

    or

    icacls . /grant <emanuel>:F /t

    or

    icacls . /grant emanuel-pc\emanuel:F /t

    or

    icacls . /grant <emanuel-pc\emanuel>:F /t

    Always ended up with

    Y:\Boot\Fonts>icacls . /grant emanuel:F /t

    .: Access is denied.

Successfully processed 0 files; Failed processing 1 fileswhy aren't i able to get permission so i can carry on and delete fonts.

  3. Kem Mon Win User
    Windows 10 version update

    Hi David,

Based on the details provided, I recommend that you manage your hard drive space for better and smooth performance
or better yet, install an additional hard drive or upgrade your PC. However, basing on the error message, the
    System Reserved
    Partition (SRP)
    is full. The
    System Reserved Partition (SRP)
is a small part of your hard drive that stores all the boot information of your system or Windows. To troubleshoot this, we need to determine if your
System Reserved Partition (SRP) is GUID
    Partition Table (GPT)
    or
    Master Boot Record (MBR)
partition style. To do this, follow these steps:

    • Press
      Windows key + R, type
      diskmgmt.msc
      and hit
      Enter.

    • Right-click on the
      Disk (Disk 0)
      that contains the
      System Reserved Partition (SRP).

    • Select
      Properties.

    • Under
      Volumes tab, check the
      Partition Style
      if it is
      GUID Partition Table (GPT)
      or
      Master Boot Record (MBR).

    If it is with
    GUID Partition Table (GPT)
    partition, follow these steps:

    • Run
      Command Prompt
      as
      Administrator.

    • Enter the following commands:

      • Mountvol y: /s

      • Y:

      • Cd EFI\Microsoft\Boot\Fonts

      • Del

      • Y

    If
it is with Master Boot Record (MBR)
    partition, follow these steps:

    • Press
      Windows key + R, type
      diskmgmt.msc
      and hit
      Enter.

    • Right-click on
      System Reserve
      and select
      Change Drive Letter
      and Paths.

    • Choose
      Add.

    • Enter
      Y
      as drive letter and click
      OK.

    • Run
      Command Prompt
      as
      Administrator.

    • Enter the following commands:

      • Y:

      • Cd Boot\Fonts.

      • Takeown \d y /r /f

      • Icacls Y:\* /save %systemdrive%\NTFSp.txt
        /c /t

      • Whoami (record the user name)

      • Icacls . /grant <username you got from
        whoiam>:F /t

    • Make sure that you still located in
      Y:\Boot\Fonts
      and enter this command:

      • Del *.*

      • Y

  4. Updating Windows/System Reserved Partition Error - Y:\Boot\Fonts>Y:\System Volume...

Fixing the system reserved partition error to get to 1607

    Hi there

I'm trying to update a PC from 1511 to 1607. Every time, the update fails because the system reserved partition is full. I had this same issue when I updated from 1507 to 1511, and fixed it by following these steps from this article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3086249.

    • Search for cmd. Press-and-hold or right-click on Command Prompt in the results, and select
      Run as administrator.
    • At the command prompt, type mountvol y: /s and then hit Enter. This will add the Y: drive letter in order to access the System Partition.
    • Type taskkill /im explorer.exe /f and press Enter. Then type
explorer.exe and press Enter to restart explorer in Admin mode.

Note While in this mode, some apps (such as OneNote) will not run.
    • Open File Explorer and put Y:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\ in the address bar and press enter.
    • Select the language folders you want to remove and permanently delete them. They will be indicated by a set of four letters, split with hyphen. For example, en-US means U.S. English; de-DE means German.
    • Optional: Remove unused font files at Y:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\Fonts.
    • After removing the files, reboot the device. This will remove the drive letter, and return explorer.exe to a normal mode.
However, this time, when I run Step 2, nothing happens. When I do Step 4, I get the error that Windows could not find the folder.

I'm not sure what to try next - these instructions worked perfectly last time! (I have explored other options such as extending the partition using third party tools but haven't been able to do so successfully.)

What could I be doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance!
